Case Basse Riserva 2001
Philosophy in the vineyard
The Case Basse Riserva 2001 is one of the highest expressions of Montalcino. Produced only in outstanding vintages, it is the result of extreme care in the vineyard: very low yields, total respect for nature and absolute attention to every single vine. No chemicals are used — only healthy grapes that fully embody the essence of the terroir.
Approach in the cellar
In the cellar, Gianfranco Soldera’s vision becomes reality without compromise. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts in open wooden vats. The wine then ages for many years in large Slavonian oak casks, without filtration or clarification. This long process allows the Sangiovese to evolve naturally, achieving remarkable complexity, depth and timeless elegance.

The story of Soldera Case Basse
The origins of a legend
Gianfranco Soldera, a man of strong character and vision, decided in the 1970s to pursue a bold dream: to create a wine that could stand alongside Europe’s greatest classics, deeply rooted in the heart of Montalcino. In 1972 he purchased the Case Basse estate, a small property in the southwest area of Montalcino, perfectly located for cultivating Sangiovese. Here he began to study the vine and its ecosystem, convinced that true quality is born first and foremost in the vineyard.
The quest for excellence
From the very beginning, Soldera took an uncompromising path: extremely low yields, no chemical treatments, and total respect for natural balance. The Case Basse vineyard became an open-air laboratory where biodiversity and constant observation turned each harvest into a unique chapter.
In the cellar, his philosophy was equally radical: spontaneous fermentations, long macerations, exclusive use of large Slavonian oak casks and no filtration. For Soldera, time was never an enemy but an ally: long ageing in barrel and bottle allows the wine to evolve naturally, preserving the unique character of each vintage.
A legacy that lives on
After Gianfranco Soldera’s passing in 2019, his family has carried forward his vision with unwavering dedication. Today, Case Basse is one of Montalcino’s most prestigious wineries — a symbol of resistance to standardisation and an icon of uncompromising quality. Soldera bottles are not just wines, they are liquid stories of terroir, passion and deep respect for nature.
