Sancerre Rouge Les Marnes 2022 – Domaine Vacheron
Vineyard philosophy
Les Marnes is one of Domaine Vacheron’s most refined Pinot Noirs, coming from select plots on marl soils rich in clay and limestone. This cru perfectly embodies the Vacheron family’s biodynamic approach: manual vineyard work, absolute respect for the natural balance, and only gentle, sustainable farming to preserve soil vitality and biodiversity.
Winemaking approach
In the cellar, the grapes are carefully hand-harvested, gently destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place in used oak barrels for about 12 months, without fining or aggressive filtration. The result is a pure Pinot Noir that expresses the mineral finesse of Sancerre’s marl soils.
Tasting notes
Colour: bright ruby red. Nose: delicate aromas of red berries, crisp cherry, subtle spicy hints and earthy nuances. Palate: elegant and silky tannins, vibrant freshness and a long, salty, mineral finish.

Domaine Vacheron
History
Domaine Vacheron is one of the historic and most respected producers in Sancerre, located in the heart of the Loire Valley. The Vacheron family has farmed vines for generations, but under the leadership of Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron, the estate fully embraced biodynamic viticulture, becoming a pioneer of natural farming in the region.
Vineyard Philosophy
The domaine’s vineyards lie on the best terroirs of Sancerre: flint (silex), limestone, and clay soils that give the wines their signature purity and minerality. All vines are hand-tended and farmed organically and biodynamically under Demeter certification, with great care for biodiversity and the lunar calendar.
Winemaking Approach
In the cellar, Vacheron uses a low-intervention approach: native yeast fermentations, parcel-by-parcel vinifications, ageing in stainless steel, large barrels or amphorae depending on the cru. The result: precise, mineral, age-worthy Sancerre whites (Sauvignon Blanc) and delicate, expressive reds (Pinot Noir).
