Okro’s Wines — Rkatsiteli Mtsvane 2022
A wine that tells the authentic story of Georgia
Okro’s Wines is based in Signaghi, in the heart of Kakheti, Georgia’s most iconic wine region. Here, at altitudes between 850 and 1,000 meters, Gela and his family craft natural wines in the ancestral qvevri, the buried clay amphorae that have preserved the soul of Georgian amber wines for centuries. The Rkatsiteli Mtsvane 2022 is a pure expression of this tradition, uncompromising and true.
Vineyard philosophy
The Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane grapes grow naturally on sandy and clay soils without synthetic chemicals. The vineyards benefit from the Kakheti hills’ altitude and strong temperature shifts, which ensure vibrant acidity and complex aromas. Harvesting is done entirely by hand with careful grape selection.
Winemaking approach
In the cellar, fermentation is spontaneous in buried qvevri, with no added sulfites, filtration, or fining. Unlike other Georgian orange wines, this wine sees no extended maceration but is vinified as whole clusters with spontaneous malolactic fermentation, preserving delicacy and energy. The result is an amber wine of great purity and integrity.

The Story and Soul of Okro
Okro’s Wines is a landmark Georgian winery for those seeking truly authentic natural wines, produced with traditional methods but a contemporary vision. Founded by John Wurdeman and Gela Patalishvili, it is located in Sighnaghi, in the heart of Kakheti, Georgia’s historical wine region.
Okro’s was born with the mission to revive ancient qvevri winemaking (terracotta amphorae buried underground) and to protect native grape varieties and a unique, uncontaminated terroir.
🌿 Vineyard Philosophy
In the vineyards, Okro’s practices certified organic farming, rejecting synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides. The vines grow on hillsides about 700 meters above sea level, in clay and limestone soils that give the wines structure and minerality.
Everything is done by hand — pruning, tending, and harvesting — always respecting the natural balance of the vines. Harvesting is timed with the seasons and never forced.
🍷 Winemaking Approach
The cellar is the beating heart of Okro’s Wines: fermentation happens with native yeasts, without filtration or fining, and with minimal or no added sulfur. Grapes are vinified in traditional qvevri, with long skin contact and natural aging before bottling.
This approach creates authentic, complex wines that can be rustic but are always alive, with deep aromas and remarkable aging potential.
