Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Arvelets 2023
A historic cru, a family symbol
Clos des Arvelets has been the beating heart of Virely Rougeot for almost a century, a 1er Cru that embodies the story of a family deeply rooted in Pommard. Purchased in 1926 by Louis Virely, this plot has expanded over time, making the domaine the largest owner of this prestigious appellation. The vineyard lies on ideal slopes where clay-limestone soils give life to a deep Pinot Noir true to its terroir. Today, Patrick Virely and his family carry on this legacy, staying faithful to the original vision of crafting an authentic and characterful wine.
Vineyard philosophy: precision and respect
The Clos des Arvelets 2023 comes from vines cultivated according to strict Burgundian tradition. Many vines are decades old, pruned by hand and managed sustainably to respect soil biodiversity. Yields are carefully controlled to ensure optimal concentration and pure fruit expression. Each cluster is hand-harvested at perfect ripeness to bring only healthy, impeccable grapes to the cellar. This commitment guarantees a cru that truly reflects its terroir, year after year.
In the cellar: elegance and depth
In the cellar, the Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Arvelets 2023 is vinified to enhance the typical Burgundian Pinot Noir style. Fermentation is spontaneous, using only indigenous yeasts, in wooden vats for gentle extraction. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, about 20% new, enriching the wine’s structure without overpowering the fruit’s elegance. Colour: bright ruby red with garnet reflections. Nose: intense notes of ripe cherry, rose petals, subtle spices and a touch of forest floor. Palate: silky texture, fine tannins and a persistent finish with savoury minerality.

Domaine Virely Rougeot
A family tradition rooted in the heart of Burgundy
Domaine Virely Rougeot is a family-run estate proudly cultivating nine hectares of vineyards spread across Pommard, Beaune and Meursault. Here, the vineyard is not just work but a true legacy handed down through generations, starting with Monsieur Louis Virely who, at the beginning of the last century, took over his in-laws’ estate and, in 1926, bought the prestigious Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Arvelets, the jewel of the Domaine. The family’s expansion continued with Bernard, Louis’s son, who by marrying a winemaker from Meursault enriched the estate’s appellations. Today, Patrick and his wife carry this heritage forward with the same dedication, keeping the Burgundian tradition alive.
Philosophy in the vineyard: respect and precision
The care of the vineyard is the beating heart of Virely Rougeot. They work according to the principles of traditional Burgundian viticulture, with targeted interventions, meticulous attention to detail and a profound respect for the terroir. The vines are cultivated using sustainable methods to preserve biodiversity and ensure healthy, balanced harvests. The grape selection is strict, the result of precise pruning, low yields and hand-picking to gather only the best clusters.
In the cellar: tradition and character
In the cellar, each vinification reflects the unique identity of each plot. Virely Rougeot vinifies its grapes in full respect of Burgundian practices: spontaneous fermentations, ageing in carefully selected oak barrels and measured use of new wood to preserve the elegance of the fruit. The wines rest as long as needed to express the purity and complexity that have made this historic estate renowned. The result is a collection of labels that tell the story of the most authentic Burgundy, combining depth, finesse and balance.
