Perlagioia 2024 – Romagna Albana DOCG
Overview
Perlagioia 2024 Romagna Albana DOCG, produced by Cantina Ancarani, is a white wine that embodies the radiant soul of Romagna. Made from 100% Albana, Italy’s first white DOCG grape, it reflects the sun-drenched hills of Oriolo dei Fichi through its purity and energy. The result is a bright and expressive wine, marked by floral and citrus aromas, lively minerality, and a refined balance between freshness and depth. A sincere expression of craftsmanship and territory.
History of the wine
The name Perlagioia (“For Joy”) perfectly represents the philosophy of Ancarani: to create wines that bring pleasure, authenticity, and emotion. The Albana grape has deep roots in the Romagna hills, where light, ventilation, and sandy soils allow it to express its full aromatic potential. The 2024 harvest, carried out manually between late August and early September, brought perfectly ripe grapes that retain natural acidity and fragrance, resulting in a wine that is both generous and elegant.
Vineyard philosophy
The Albana vineyards are cultivated under organic and sustainable principles, without herbicides or synthetic fertilizers. The sandy, mineral-rich soils give the wine its distinctive freshness and structure. Every stage of cultivation, from pruning to harvest, is done by hand and with great care, preserving biodiversity and soil vitality. For Claudio and Rita Ancarani, nature sets the pace — their role is simply to guide and protect, allowing the vineyard to express its own voice through the fruit.
Winemaking approach
After manual selection, the grapes undergo gentle destemming and soft pressing (below 0.8 bar) with a short skin contact to extract delicate aromas. The fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, followed by 3 months on natural lees to enrich texture and complexity. The wine then matures in cement vats, allowing natural clarification and stability. After a minimum of 2 months in bottle, Per la Gioia 2024 reveals its full harmony and aromatic elegance — a wine that captures light in liquid form.
Tasting notes
Color: intense yellow with golden reflections.
Nose: delicate floral aromas of hawthorn and broom, with hints of citrus peel and wild herbs.
Palate: dry, firm, and mineral, with vibrant acidity and a pleasant saline finish. The slight tannic grip adds persistence and structure, enhancing its balance between freshness and complexity.
Food pairings
Perlagioia 2024 Albana di Romagna DOCG pairs beautifully with seafood dishes, shellfish, vegetable risottos, and soft cheeses. Its freshness makes it perfect with Mediterranean appetizers or herb-based recipes. Serve at 10–12 °C to fully appreciate its finesse and expressive character.

Ancarani Winery
History
The Ancarani Winery rises among the gentle hills of Oriolo dei Fichi, near Faenza, in the very heart of Romagna’s wine-growing area. Its story began in the 1960s, when the Ancarani family started cultivating vines with deep respect for the land and its rhythms. Today, Claudio Ancarani and Rita Babini continue this heritage, turning traditional farming into a project of artisanal winemaking. Over time, the estate has become a benchmark for those who seek honest wines — true reflections of Romagna’s terroir and character. The goal is not to follow trends, but to preserve authenticity and express tradition through every bottle.
Vineyard Philosophy
In the vineyard, Ancarani follows a philosophy centered on respect for biodiversity and natural balance. Only native Romagna grape varieties are cultivated — Sangiovese, Albana, Famoso, and Centesimino — each thriving in the estate’s sandy, Pleistocene-era soils. The vineyards are managed according to organic principles, with minimal intervention and entirely manual work. Claudio and Rita believe that great wine can only come from healthy, living soil, where every vine grows in harmony with its environment.
Approach in the Cellar
In the cellar, Ancarani’s approach is guided by a desire to express the true character of each vintage. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified using artisanal methods, with indigenous yeasts and minimal use of sulfites. The wines are authentic and pure, shaped by tradition yet alive with contemporary sensitivity. Aging takes place slowly, often in large barrels, with no technological manipulation. Every bottle becomes a sincere expression of Romagna’s identity and soul.
Vision and Territory
For Claudio and Rita, wine is more than a product — it is a cultural expression of place and people. Ancarani’s philosophy emphasizes ethics, sustainability, and transparency. The estate focuses on quality over quantity, producing wines that speak honestly of their origin. Today, Ancarani stands as a symbol of authentic, independent winemaking, embodying the modern spirit of Romagna’s rural heritage.
