Jean Paul Deville – Carte Noire Brut
Philosophy in the vineyard
The Carte Noire Brut by Jean Paul Deville is crafted exclusively from estate-owned vineyards in Verzy, Champagne. With about 100,000 bottles produced annually, the vineyard blend focuses on quality and terroir expression. The vines, dominated by Pinot Noir at 75%, are carefully nurtured to produce grapes that reflect the elegance and freshness typical of this prestigious Champagne region. The inclusion of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier completes the harmony in the vineyard, balancing power and finesse.
Winemaking approach
This sparkling wine undergoes a meticulous blend of 70% vintage wine with 30% reserve wine aged in wooden barrels, adding complexity and depth. The fermentation and aging process enhance the natural character of the grapes while preserving freshness. Jean Paul Deville’s attention to minimal intervention results in a refined mousse and elegant bubbles that define the Champagne’s distinctive style.
Tasting notes
The color shows delicate white flowers and fresh fruit notes at the start.
On the nose, aromas of violet leaf and red fruits emerge, followed by mineral hints and gentle toasty nuances.
The palate is elegant and fine, salty with slightly oxidative notes, full-bodied, balanced, and long-lasting.

The history of Maison Deville
The official story of Maison Deville began in 1968 with Jean Paul and the first labeled bottle. However, Jean Paul represents the fifth generation of a family of winemakers who for over a century cultivated their grapes and sold them to the great Champagne houses. This long family tradition gives the Maison a deep connection to the land and expert knowledge of the varieties and cultivation methods.
Philosophy and terroir
Located in Verzy, the elected home of Pinot Noir less than 20 km from Reims, the Maison boasts vineyards classified as Grand Cru, a symbol of exceptional quality. Deville’s winemakers embody the ancient tradition of the region, living in harmony with the land and respecting the environment through sustainable and careful practices, long before it became a trend. This approach allows the true richness and identity of Champagne’s unique terroir to shine.

Champagnes from Maison Deville are characterized by a very traditional style. The nose reveals pleasantly oxidative aromas, while the palate is rich and full, with a creamy texture that captivates.
