Carlania Celler Els Corrals 2018
Overview
Carlania Celler Els Corrals 2018 is a unique red wine crafted entirely from Trepat grapes sourced from a century-old vineyard. Grown in the Finca Els Corrals plot, just 2 hectares wide and located at 410 metres above sea level, these ancient vines deliver grapes of extraordinary concentration and character. The result is a wine that combines authenticity, elegance, and tradition, offering a refined expression of Catalonia’s terroir.
History of the wine
The soul of Els Corrals lies in its historic vineyard, located near the Anguera River. With more than 100 years of history, these vines rooted in clay-limestone soils produce grapes that are both powerful and balanced. Hand-harvested at the perfect stage of ripeness, they embody the heritage of Barberà de la Conca. This wine represents not only a product of enology but also a testimony to local traditions and the deep bond between family and land.
Philosophy in the vineyard
Carlania Celler follows organic and biodynamic principles, certified by CCPAE, to preserve soil vitality and biodiversity. The old vines are cultivated without chemicals, ensuring a healthy ecosystem. Manual harvesting in 20 kg boxes guarantees minimal stress to the fruit, with grapes picked at their peak. This sustainable and respectful approach allows Trepat to fully reveal its authentic character and create wines of balance and individuality.
Winemaking approach
The winemaking process is guided by minimal intervention, aimed at preserving the pure essence of the grapes. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, at temperatures between 23–25 ºC. Maceration varies from 8 to 15 days, depending on grape maturity, ensuring optimal extraction. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and then matures for 10 months in used chestnut barrels, which enhance complexity without overpowering varietal identity.
Tasting notes
Colour: bright cherry-red with lively, youthful reflections.
Nose: aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherry and strawberry, accompanied by delicate spicy notes and a subtle touch of liquorice.
Palate: smooth and elegant on entry, balanced mid-palate, and consistent, lingering finish. Medium-bodied, structured, and harmonious.
Food pairings
Perfect with roasted lamb, grilled beef, rabbit stew, and duck. Its freshness also makes it an excellent companion to Catalan cuisine such as butifarra with beans. It pairs beautifully with mature cheeses and even with dishes featuring spiced vegetables or baked oily fish.

Carlania Celler – A family story of biodiversity and innovation
The origins of Carlania Celler
The story of Carlania Celler begins in Barberà de la Conca, in north-eastern Spain, where a family project chose to merge tradition with innovation. From the outset, the winery has embraced a philosophy of respect for the land and a commitment to local grape varieties. The adoption of biodynamic farming is not just a technique, but a statement of intent that puts biodiversity, natural balance, and the preservation of the landscape at the centre of their work.
Philosophy in the vineyard
At altitudes between 400 and 500 metres, Carlania Celler cultivates its vines with full respect for nature. The soils are farmed without chemicals and enriched through organic practices certified by the CCPAE, ensuring the purity and vitality of the fruit. Each vineyard parcel is managed to preserve natural biodiversity, resulting in healthy grapes that carry the authentic character of their terroir.
Winemaking approach
In the cellar, the same philosophy continues, favouring minimal intervention. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, and the wines are matured in a way that respects their varietal expression. Every step of the process is designed to highlight the uniqueness of the grapes and the land, producing wines that are both innovative and deeply rooted in local tradition.
Identity and connection to the land
A key emblem of Carlania Celler is the Trepat, a native grape that thrives on the hills of Barberà de la Conca. Many of the winery’s labels are dedicated to showcasing this variety, alongside other indigenous grapes. Since joining the Nursery of Winemakers project in 2007, Carlania has also opened a small local wine bar, a place where visitors can taste, learn, and experience the bond between product and territory.
