Côtes Catalanes Cortado 2023
Vineyard philosophy
The Côtes Catalanes Cortado 2023 comes from vines rooted in mostly clay, limestone, and schist soils. This diverse terroir gives the grapes freshness and depth. The vineyards are farmed sustainably, with manual harvesting to protect the integrity of the fruit. The goal is to highlight the natural purity of Grenache, in its red, grey, and white expressions.
Winemaking approach
Fermentation takes place naturally in concrete vats, using only native yeasts. The wine then rests for six months in concrete to refine its texture without external influence. This minimal-intervention approach results in an honest, vivid red that balances freshness and generous fruit.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby red color.
On the nose, white flowers, plum, peach, and raspberry.
On the palate, it is intense, smooth, fruity, with rounded tannins.

The history
Alain Carrère founded Domaine de Majas in 1992 with his wife Agnes, starting a winemaking journey on 30 hectares planted on schist soils, using the bush vine (gobelet) training system. Initially, production was aimed at mass distribution, with a more commercial approach. However, the encounter with Tom Lubbe of Matassa marked a decisive turning point, completely changing the company’s vision and strategy.
Vineyard philosophy
The rebirth of Domaine de Majas came through a strong commitment to organic conversion driven by Tom Lubbe, emphasizing deep respect for terroir and vineyard biodiversity. Cultivated on schist soils, with natural practices and exclusive use of indigenous yeasts during fermentation, the wines express clarity, vibrant freshness, and a delicious character, true to the essence of Roussillon.
Winemaking approach
In the cellar, minimal intervention is preferred, allowing natural fermentation guided by native yeasts to enhance the purity of the grapes. Aging follows traditional and controlled methods, aiming to preserve aromatic integrity and convey the complexity of the land. The result is clean, crisp wines that are lively and accessible, appealing to both enthusiasts and newcomers.
