Coraggio 2022 Podere Sassi – Lazio IGT
Wine Overview
Coraggio 2022 Podere Sassi is a natural white wine from Tarano, in the heart of Lazio, nestled among the rolling Sabine hills. It tells the story of a unique terroir, with clay, sand, and silt soils of ancient origin where the vines grow at 300 meters above sea level. The blend of Malvasia del Lazio and Trebbiano Giallo in equal parts conveys freshness, authenticity, and personality. With no artificial intervention, spontaneous fermentation, and zero added sulfites, this bottle is a true manifesto of artisanal winemaking, crafted for those who seek genuine wines that transparently express their land of origin.
History and Terroir
Podere Sassi is located in Tarano, a small village in Rieti province near the Umbrian border, surrounded by pristine landscapes and lush nature. The vineyards are trained with the Guyot system and farmed with full respect for biodiversity. The grapes used for Coraggio grow on Plio-Pleistocene soils made of clay, sand, and silt, which add mineral complexity. Harvest takes place by hand in late September, and the fruit is brought to the cellar to craft a wine that embodies the authentic identity of Lazio’s terroir.
Vineyard Philosophy and Winemaking
The work in the vineyard follows a fully artisanal and sustainable approach, focusing on natural balance. No selected yeasts, enzymes, or additives are used: fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, and a short 3-day skin maceration enhances color, structure, and varietal aromas. The wine then ages for 7 months in fiberglass tanks on fine lees, a process that adds roundness and complexity while preserving the genuine profile of the grapes.
Tasting Notes
Coraggio 2022 shows a bright golden yellow color, luminous and intense. On the nose, it delivers a rich bouquet of fresh white flowers, ripe citrus, and delicate herbal hints that reflect its terroir. The palate is fresh and savory, with an agile and dynamic body balanced by natural acidity and minerality. The finish is long and harmonious, leaving behind pleasant notes of fruit and flowers. An approachable yet distinctive wine, perfect for discovering the white soul of Lazio.
Food Pairings
Thanks to its freshness and structure, Coraggio 2022 pairs beautifully with seafood dishes and shellfish, including tartare, carpaccio, and light pasta. It is also excellent with fresh cheeses, goat cheese, and seasonal vegetable dishes. Its savory character makes it a great match for gourmet pizzas and traditional Lazio recipes, offering a versatile companion that enhances both food and wine.
