Clos de l’Ermitage
A precious cru in the heart of Beaune
The Clos de l’Ermitage by Virely Rougeot is one of the historical gems of the Côte de Beaune. This small, walled plot, restored and replanted by the family in the 1950s, lies in the hills of Beaune, sheltered by ancient dry-stone walls that create a unique microclimate. Here, the story of a family of vignerons merges with the memory of a noble terroir, yielding wines of remarkable elegance and ageing potential. The Clos is tended with dedication to faithfully reflect Beaune’s most authentic soul.
Vineyard philosophy: delicate balance
The vineyard of Clos de l’Ermitage grows on clay-limestone soils rich in minerals, giving the wine aromatic finesse and vibrant tension. Vineyard management is strictly manual, from pruning to sustainable treatments that respect biodiversity. Yields are kept low to concentrate the plant’s energy into healthy, flavourful grapes. Hand harvesting ensures impeccable fruit selection. Every detail aims to express the essence of this rare, enclosed Clos.
In the cellar: precision and finesse
In the cellar, Clos de l’Ermitage is vinified according to classic Burgundian methods. Fermentation is spontaneous and slow, carried out in wooden or stainless steel vats with gentle punch-downs to preserve primary aromas. Ageing continues for 12–14 months in French oak barrels, partly new, adding structure without masking the fruit. Colour: bright ruby red with luminous highlights. Nose: fresh red berries, floral notes and subtle spices. Palate: elegant and harmonious, silky tannins and vibrant freshness invite another sip.

Domaine Virely Rougeot
A family tradition rooted in the heart of Burgundy
Domaine Virely Rougeot is a family-run estate proudly cultivating nine hectares of vineyards spread across Pommard, Beaune and Meursault. Here, the vineyard is not just work but a true legacy handed down through generations, starting with Monsieur Louis Virely who, at the beginning of the last century, took over his in-laws’ estate and, in 1926, bought the prestigious Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Arvelets, the jewel of the Domaine. The family’s expansion continued with Bernard, Louis’s son, who by marrying a winemaker from Meursault enriched the estate’s appellations. Today, Patrick and his wife carry this heritage forward with the same dedication, keeping the Burgundian tradition alive.
Philosophy in the vineyard: respect and precision
The care of the vineyard is the beating heart of Virely Rougeot. They work according to the principles of traditional Burgundian viticulture, with targeted interventions, meticulous attention to detail and a profound respect for the terroir. The vines are cultivated using sustainable methods to preserve biodiversity and ensure healthy, balanced harvests. The grape selection is strict, the result of precise pruning, low yields and hand-picking to gather only the best clusters.
In the cellar: tradition and character
In the cellar, each vinification reflects the unique identity of each plot. Virely Rougeot vinifies its grapes in full respect of Burgundian practices: spontaneous fermentations, ageing in carefully selected oak barrels and measured use of new wood to preserve the elegance of the fruit. The wines rest as long as needed to express the purity and complexity that have made this historic estate renowned. The result is a collection of labels that tell the story of the most authentic Burgundy, combining depth, finesse and balance.
