Overview
Urban 2019 is a red wine that embodies the authentic character of the Vicenza hills. Crafted from Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%), sourced from historic vines planted in 1940, this wine expresses a perfect balance between heritage and artisanal winemaking. The calcareous soil of the vineyard provides freshness and minerality, while the natural approach in both vineyard and cellar ensures purity and transparency. Produced in only 5,000 bottles, Urban 2019 stands as a rare testimony of how international grape varieties can narrate the story of a unique terroir with elegance and precision.
History of the wine
The name Urban recalls Sant’Urbano hill, home to the old vineyard that has been preserved for generations. This parcel, planted in 1940, is considered a living monument of viticultural memory. Urban 2019 was born as part of a family project aimed at reviving forgotten vineyards and rediscovering their expressive power. Through this wine, Masiero demonstrates how history, respect for nature, and a minimalist philosophy in winemaking can converge to create a red wine of great personality and territorial identity.
Philosophy in the vineyard
The vineyard, with more than 80 years of life, is managed through manual work and natural practices. Every harvest is carefully carried out by hand, selecting only healthy, perfectly ripe bunches. The calcareous soil enhances the aromatic freshness of the grapes, offering balance and minerality. No synthetic chemicals are used, and every intervention is aimed at maintaining harmony between plant and environment. This approach ensures that the grapes fully reflect the vitality of their terroir and provide the foundation for an authentic, vibrant wine.
Approach in the cellar
In the cellar, the winemaking process is guided by simplicity and respect. The grapes ferment spontaneously in open wooden vats, with 30 days of skin contact, allowing color, aromas, and tannins to develop naturally. The wine then ages for 12 months in large cement tanks, which preserve freshness and emphasize its mineral tension. No fining, no filtration—Urban 2019 is bottled in its purest form, keeping intact the complexity and soul of the fruit.
Tasting notes and pairings
In the glass, Urban 2019 shows a deep ruby red color. The bouquet reveals ripe red and black fruits, accompanied by herbal tones, pepper, and subtle balsamic hints. On the palate, it is full-bodied and enveloping, with velvety tannins and a lively freshness that drives the sip forward. The finish is long, persistent, and balanced, leaving a pleasant fruity and herbal aftertaste. Perfect with grilled red meats, game dishes, rich pasta, and aged cheeses, this wine also shines on its own in moments of reflection and conviviality.

Masiero – Azienda Agricola
Overview
Masiero is a family-run winery in the heart of Vicenza that embodies the belief that agriculture can truly preserve the land. Rooted in biodynamics and respect for nature, the estate is dedicated to native and historic varieties such as Tai Rosso, Garganega (once called Dorona), and Pinot Grigio Ramato. Each bottle reflects volcanic soils, experimentation, and a deep connection to tradition and territory.
The history of Masiero
The story began in the early 2000s, when Franco Masiero planted his first row of Merlot. What started as a pastime soon turned into Verdugo, a wine that transparently reveals both volcanic terroir and family passion. In 2015, together with his wife Francesca and daughter Giulia, Franco began a new project to restore an old vineyard in Sant’Urbano, on soils of marl and volcanic rock. This land rekindled their love for the area’s ancient grape varieties, with Tai Rosso being its centennial soul.
Vineyard philosophy
In the vineyard, everything revolves around balance, the core principle of biodynamics. Human intervention always follows the needs of nature, guided by the biodynamic calendar, which takes into account the influence of celestial rhythms. Pruning, green pruning, and harvesting are carried out by hand, while copper and sulfur treatments are applied using a lightweight crawler tractor to avoid soil compaction. No synthetic chemicals are ever used.
Work in the cellar
In the winery, the same principles apply: no selected yeasts, no added sulfur, no temperature control, and no chemical additives. The wines are guided through spontaneous fermentation and natural evolution, reflecting the singularity of each vintage. Cleanliness and precision ensure that the fruit’s authenticity remains untouched, while experimentation with new materials meets the rediscovery of ancient methods.
Identity of the wines
Masiero wines are alive, expressive, and unrepeatable, a direct expression of the land and the year that shaped them. They combine authenticity, innovation, and heritage, giving voice to Vicenza’s volcanic terroir and its forgotten grapes.
