Cuvée Frédéric Emile Riesling 1998 – Trimbach
A landmark in Alsatian aging potential
Cuvée Frédéric Emile 1998 comes from a warm, dry vintage, ideal for the slow and balanced ripening of Riesling. The wine originates from two historic Grand Cru vineyards—Osterberg and Geisberg—renowned for their marl and limestone soils, which lend structure and age-worthiness.
Vineyard Philosophy
The Trimbach estate follows a philosophy of minimal intervention and terroir expression. Grapes for this cuvée are hand-harvested from old vines, carefully selected to ensure concentration and precision. Sustainable viticulture and low yields contribute to the intensity and minerality of the final wine.
Winemaking Approach
Vinified in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts, this Riesling undergoes no malolactic fermentation, maintaining freshness and structure. No fining or filtering disturbs the purity. Aged in bottle before release, this 1998 now reveals its mature, elegant depth.
Brilliant golden color, showing graceful age. On the nose, notes of petrol, candied lemon peel, crushed herbs, and flint. On the palate, it’s dry, tense, saline, and precise, with still-vibrant acidity and an endless mineral finish.

Trimbach – Timeless Alsatian Elegance
Established in 1626 in Ribeauvillé, in the heart of Alsace, Maison Trimbach stands as one of the oldest and most revered wine estates in France. For thirteen generations, the Trimbach family has pursued a vision based on precision, purity, and age-worthiness. Today, the estate is led by Jean, Pierre, and Anne Trimbach, continuing a nearly four-century legacy.
Vineyard Philosophy
Trimbach is known for its commitment to dry, mineral-driven wines that reflect the unique terroirs of Alsace. Their vineyards—spread over 50 hectares—include some of the most prestigious Grand Cru sites like Geisberg, Osterberg, and Rosacker. The crown jewel is the Clos Sainte Hune, a mythical 1.67-hectare parcel within the Rosacker Grand Cru, cultivated organically (though uncertified).
Winemaking Approach
The cellar work is rooted in tradition and restraint. Spontaneous fermentations, use of stainless steel and large neutral wooden casks, and no fining or filtering ensure clarity and structure. Wines are released only when ready, often after extended bottle aging. Trimbach wines are celebrated for their tension, elegance, and extraordinary longevity, especially the world-renowned Riesling Clos Sainte Hune.
