Primeiro Rosso 2020
Vineyard philosophy
Primeiro Rosso 2020 is crafted in the sun-drenched vineyards of Alentejo, where respect for the land and careful manual work define the harvest. The Aragonez, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet grapes are picked by hand in mid-September, at perfect ripeness to balance fruit intensity, freshness and structure. Warm, well-drained soils help develop healthy, concentrated berries.
Winemaking approach
In the cellar, the process remains pure and precise. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats to preserve varietal expression. Ageing follows for 16 months in third-use French oak barrels, adding complexity and roundness without masking the grapes’ character.
Tasting notes
Its colour is deep dark red, intense and inviting. On the nose it reveals black berry notes, with subtle green hints and soft spice. On the palate, it shows medium body, firm but smooth tannins, a lovely freshness and a persistent finish.

Miguel Louro
A rebellious and visionary winemaker
Miguel Louro is the soul of Quinta do Mouro, an emblematic figure of Portuguese wine thanks to his rebellious, passionate and often irreverent personality. He is not just a winemaker but a man of many lives: trained as an agronomist, former dentist, collector of rare objects, poker player and curious traveller. Returning to his land, he chose to let his terroir speak through unconventional wines, authentic and uncompromising.
Vineyard philosophy and sense of place
Born and raised among the family’s vineyards in Estremoz, Miguel believes in honest and respectful viticulture, based on organic practices and careful soil management. His vineyards, planted in 2010 on schist soils, express the unique character of Alentejo: fresh, balanced wines with moderate alcohol content and a strong territorial identity. His farming aims for healthy, vibrant grapes that tell the story and soul of these hills.
Winemaking approach: rigour and freedom
In the cellar, Miguel combines method and instinct. The harvest is always manual, the grapes are processed in traditional lagares or open vats, with spontaneous fermentations using native yeasts. For ageing, he prefers rustic Portuguese barrels and select French barriques, keeping interventions to a minimum to preserve the fruit’s integrity. Every detail follows an unwritten rule: the freedom to craft a living wine, unfiltered, never standardised.
An authentic author
Miguel Louro defines himself as a true winegrower, far from certifications and market dogmas. He believes wine should provoke and stir emotions, even irritate those who want only convenience. His wines are not for everyone: they remain faithful to the land, to the hands that make them and to those who choose them.
