Pistus 2022 – I Custodi delle Vigne dell’Etna
Vineyard Philosophy
Pistus 2022 comes from the vineyards of I Custodi delle Vigne dell’Etna, which preserve the most authentic face of Etna through sustainable farming and ancient local practices. The vines grow on fertile volcanic soils, at high altitudes, supported by dry stone walls, terraces and traditional Etna chestnut posts. Cultivation is entirely manual, with careful handpicking of only healthy, ripe grapes placed in shallow crates to keep the fruit intact.
Winemaking Approach
In the cellar, Pistus 2022 is crafted with gentle vinification to enhance the freshness of Nerello Mascalese and other native varieties. The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed; maceration lasts about one week in steel tanks, followed by 9 months of ageing in steel to preserve fragrance and varietal purity. After bottling, the wine rests for at least 6 months to reach perfect balance.
Bright red with ruby reflections, it shows on the nose fresh fruit and floral aromas, while the palate is fruity, harmonious, pleasantly tannic with vibrant acidity.

Winery Profile
I Custodi delle Vigne dell’Etna was founded to safeguard and pass on the heroic viticulture of Mount Etna, working with a unique and fragile volcanic landscape. The winery tends historic bush-trained vines, often ungrafted and over a century old, growing at 600 to 1,200 meters altitude on the slopes of Europe’s highest active volcano.
Their philosophy is handcrafted and natural: manual cultivation, traditional chestnut poles, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, and classic vinification in old palmenti. Each wine reflects the specific slope, contrada, and vintage, always produced in small quantities.
I Custodi embody sustainable mountain viticulture, preserving Etna’s rural heritage through authentic, artisan wines.
