Overview
The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo “Sedici 29” 2020 from Podere della Torre is a powerful yet refined organic red wine that embodies the soul of Abruzzo. Made exclusively from 100% certified organic Montepulciano grapes, it expresses the richness and authenticity of Spoltore’s terroir. The 2020 vintage reveals deep structure, elegant tannins, and complex aromas, perfectly balancing intensity and finesse. It is a wine crafted with precision, tradition, and time — designed to evolve gracefully over the years.
Wine History
“Sedici 29” takes its name from a historical vineyard parcel — cadastral sheet 16, plot 29 — representing the birthplace of the estate’s identity. This cru is the spiritual heart of Podere della Torre, a tribute to the family’s origins and their devotion to Montepulciano. Each vintage of Sedici 29 captures the continuity of generations and the winery’s philosophy: authenticity, respect for nature, and a pursuit of purity in every glass.
Vineyard Philosophy
The vineyards lie on rolling hills about 200 meters above sea level, with clay-limestone soils that enrich the grapes with minerality and depth. Trained in the traditional tendone system, the vines are over 30 years old and cultivated with certified organic practices. Low yields — below 60 quintals per hectare — ensure concentration and aromatic complexity. Manual vineyard care and selective harvesting enhance the quality and longevity of this exceptional Montepulciano.
Winemaking Approach
Hand-harvested grapes are gently destemmed and pressed, followed by a long maceration on the skins lasting around 20 days at controlled temperature. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and full malolactic conversion in wood preserve the grape’s natural character. The wine matures for 24 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux, followed by extended bottle aging. The result is a deep, harmonious red, balancing structure, freshness, and finesse in perfect proportion.
Tasting Notes
Color: deep ruby red with garnet reflections.
Nose: layered and complex with ripe black cherry, plum, licorice, sweet spices, and hints of tobacco and balsamic herbs.
Palate: full-bodied, elegant, and persistent, with silky tannins and excellent freshness. The finish is long, sapid, and spicy — a true expression of Montepulciano’s nobility.
Food Pairings
Ideal with grilled red meats, game dishes, braised beef, roasted lamb, and aged cheeses. Excellent as a meditation wine, enjoyed slowly in large glasses to reveal all its aromatic complexity.

Transparency, simplicity, and respect for the raw material guide every process, whether the wine is aged in steel or in wood. Each bottle reflects the authenticity and uniqueness of the estate’s terroir.
Territory, Vines & People
The Abruzzo hills, with their Mediterranean climate mitigated by mountain breezes, offer ideal conditions for viticulture. The soils, combined with altitude, give balance and minerality to the wines. The people behind Podere della Torre play a central role: their commitment and passion are the soul of the winery, ensuring wines that are not standardized, but rather true to their land and crafted with personality.
