Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2022 Bossanova
Overview
The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2022 Bossanova embodies the true soul of Controguerra’s hills, where rural tradition meets a modern artisanal spirit. Crafted from 100% Montepulciano grapes, it reflects a patient, respectful approach that lets nature speak freely. This wine is deep and vibrant, perfectly balanced between structure and freshness. Its character is both earthy and melodic — a sincere interpretation of Abruzzo through the rhythm and harmony that define Bossanova’s philosophy.
History of the Wine
This Montepulciano was born from the desire to reinterpret a classic Abruzzese icon in a contemporary way, preserving its strength while enhancing its finesse. The 2022 vintage offered balanced conditions, allowing for full aromatic ripeness and excellent fruit concentration. The vineyards, caressed by mountain breezes and the Adriatic’s influence, produced grapes that express authenticity and precision. The result is a wine that honors tradition while embracing a modern vision — elegant, lively, and full of pulse.
Vineyard Philosophy
The grapes come from vineyards farmed organically and biodynamically, without synthetic chemicals. Each vine grows in harmony with the lunar and seasonal cycles, rooted in sandy-clay soils rich in minerals. The Montepulciano grape, a proud symbol of Abruzzo, thrives in this landscape, where sharp temperature shifts enhance aromatic complexity. Every cluster is hand-harvested to preserve its purity and freshness, ensuring the wine captures the essence of its terroir without interference.
Approach in the Cellar
The winemaking follows a minimal-intervention, artisanal philosophy. A portion of the grapes is foot-crushed and fermented with stems, adding structure and aromatic depth. Spontaneous fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, and maceration remains short to preserve energy and clarity. The wine is aged eight months in glazed concrete tanks and four months in bottle, without filtration or fining. No oak, no additives—just time, patience, and gravity guiding its evolution toward purity and truth.
Tasting Notes
Color: deep ruby red with violet hues, bright and lively.
Nose: notes of black cherry, plum, violet, and Mediterranean herbs, with a fine mineral touch.
Palate: juicy and rhythmic, with fine-grained tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, savory finish that enhances its drinkability.
Food Pairings
Ideal with traditional Abruzzese dishes like lamb ragù, grilled meats, and aged cheeses. It pairs beautifully with rustic stews or pasta al forno. Slightly chilled, it reveals an extra layer of freshness and charm — the pure taste of artisanal Abruzzo.

Bossanova: Artisan Wines from the Heart of Abruzzo
The Story of Bossanova
Born from the encounter between Andrea Quaglia, an internationally experienced manager, and Nat Colantonio, a musician and wine enthusiast, Bossanova embodies one of the most authentic expressions of contemporary Abruzzo winemaking. Just like the Brazilian music genre it’s named after, the winery blends harmony, rhythm, and sensitivity. Located in Controguerra, in the province of Teramo, Bossanova’s vineyards stretch between the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic Sea, a place where nature and culture coexist. From its inception, the project has aimed to create wines that reflect the soul, pace, and purity of rural Abruzzo through a modern and conscious approach.
Vineyard Philosophy
In the vineyards, Bossanova embraces a deep respect for nature and biodiversity. The gently rolling hills benefit from ideal climatic conditions, marked by wide temperature variations and marine breezes that preserve the aromatic integrity of the grapes. Farming follows biodynamic principles, with minimal soil intervention and exclusive use of natural preparations. No synthetic chemicals are employed—just patient, respectful work that keeps the vines in balance. Native varieties such as Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano Abruzzese are cultivated with devotion to local heritage and terroir expression.
Approach in the Cellar
Bossanova’s winemaking philosophy is based on purity and transparency. Fermentations occur spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, without forced temperature control, allowing the wines to follow their natural rhythm. Sulfur is used only in minimal quantities during bottling, while clarifying agents and additives are completely avoided. Maturation takes place in glazed concrete tanks or terracotta amphorae, enabling slow evolution and preserving the minerality of the terroir. Each bottle is a handcrafted reflection of the vineyard’s voice and the artisan’s intuition.
The Heart of Abruzzo in Every Glass
Bossanova’s wines capture the true spirit of Controguerra, where sandy and clay soils bring depth, vitality, and a sense of place. The winery represents a new generation of Abruzzese producers who believe that authenticity lies in the honesty of agricultural work. From the energetic Montepulciano to the bright, Mediterranean Trebbiano, every wine is a journey through land and emotion. Bossanova is Abruzzo that sings, ferments, and lives.
