Langhe Nebbiolo 2023 – Gian Luca Colombo
Overview
The Langhe Nebbiolo 2023 by Gian Luca Colombo embodies the elegance and depth of Piedmont’s most noble grape. Sourced from a single vineyard located between Roddi and Verduno, just 220 meters outside the Barolo appellation, it reflects precision, finesse, and the expressive clarity typical of Colombo’s style. This wine reveals the soul of Nebbiolo — floral, structured, and pure — where tradition and modern craftsmanship coexist in perfect balance.
History of the wine
This Nebbiolo originates from a unique plot situated just beyond the Barolo DOCG boundary, facing South–South East. Its soils and exposure allow for slow, even ripening, resulting in grapes of exceptional aromatic and structural balance. Colombo decided to vinify this vineyard separately to reveal its individual character, crafting a wine that rivals the complexity and harmony of the greatest Langhe reds. Every step, from vineyard to cellar, reflects respect for terroir and a quest for authenticity.
Vineyard philosophy and cellar approach
Viticulture follows low-impact, sustainable practices focused on soil vitality and biodiversity. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature, followed by maceration lasting 20 to 50 days, depending on the vintage. The wine is then aged in a combination of large Austrian oak casks, used tonneaux, and ceramic vessels — a thoughtful blend of materials chosen to preserve purity and enhance texture. The result is a Nebbiolo with fine-grained tannins, depth, and remarkable balance.
Tasting notes
Color: bright garnet-red with ruby reflections.
Nose: violet and rose petals stand out, accompanied by subtle spice and delicate red fruit tones.
Palate: refined and savory, with tight yet silky tannins and a persistent, balanced finish.
Food pairings
Ideal with traditional Piedmontese dishes such as rabbit ragù tajarin, veal stew, or aged cheeses. This Langhe Nebbiolo pairs grace with structure, offering both gastronomic versatility and contemplative depth.
