Laissez Faire by Christian Tschida – Natural Riesling from Burgenland
History and Origin of the Wine
Laissez Faire is an extraordinary white wine produced by Christian Tschida in the heart of Burgenland, Illmitz. Made from 100% Riesling, the grapes come from schist-rich vineyards and are hand-harvested, ensuring the highest quality. This wine perfectly expresses the Illmitz terroir and Tschida’s philosophy, favoring minimal human intervention in both vineyard and winery, highlighting freshness, minerality, and aromatic complexity.
Vineyard Philosophy
The grapes for Laissez Faire come from carefully tended vineyards with no systemic chemicals. The young winemaker applies natural viticulture, respecting the rhythms of the plants and the land. Hand harvesting allows selection of only the best clusters, preserving integrity and quality while preparing the grapes for an elegant, mineral, and complex wine.
Natural Winemaking and Aging
Vinification is entirely spontaneous: grapes are destemmed and foot-crushed, with a short maceration of a few hours. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts, without any selected yeast or additives. Aging lasts about one year in large used wooden casks, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration, fully respecting Tschida’s natural approach.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, Laissez Faire reveals aromas of peach, apricot, lime, plum, green apple, and pear, accompanied by white floral and evolved herbal notes. It is mineral and lightly spicy, while the palate surprises with elegance, depth, and vibrant, almost salty acidity, making it persistent and harmonious.
Pairing and Serving
Perfect with shellfish and delicate fish dishes, Laissez Faire is best served at 10°–12°C. This natural Riesling expresses the authenticity of Christian Tschida wines, combining freshness, minerality, and aromatic complexity in a unique sensory experience.
