VikeVike Ghirada Istevene
The story of a century-old vineyard
VikeVike Ghirada Istevene is Simone Sedilesu’s tribute to an extraordinary parcel in the heart of Mamoiada. This vineyard, located in Istevene at 750 meters a.s.l., is over 105 years old, a silent witness to generations of winemakers. Here, the vines grow as low bush vines, according to ancient tradition, and every vine tells stories of deep roots, granite soils, and a unique mountain microclimate. Few bottles, much soul: this cru is a symbol of resilience, memory, and Sardinian pride.
Vineyard philosophy
Working with a vineyard over a century old requires respect and manual care. The yield is very low, only 30 q/ha, producing concentrated grapes full of character. Harvested by hand at the end of September, each bunch is carefully selected. The old Cannonau vines rooted in granite give this wine a unique depth and complexity, making Ghirada Istevene an unrepeatable expression of the terroir.
Winery approach
In the cellar, winemaking follows VikeVike’s minimalist philosophy. Fermentation is spontaneous, with no added yeasts, to preserve the vineyard’s true identity. Maceration lasts 15 days with 100% whole bunches, enhancing freshness, structure, and the spicy notes typical of high-altitude Cannonau. A gentle pressing respects the purity of the fruit. The wine matures for 18 months in 500-litre oak barrels and rests at least 6 months in bottle. Only 1,946 bottles of this rare, vibrant wine are produced.
Colour: Deep ruby red with garnet highlights.
Nose: Aromas of ripe cherry, balsamic hints, wild herbs, and subtle black pepper.
Palate: Velvety tannins, deep and vertical sip, long mineral finish.

VikeVike Winery: Deep Roots in Mamoiada, Heart of Barbagia
The History
The VikeVike Winery was born from the passion for wine and the determination of Simone Sedilesu, a young winemaker raised among his family’s vines. Located in Mamoiada, a picturesque village in the heart of Barbagia, Nuoro province, the winery is a tribute to love for the land and respect for its unique territory.
Simone’s story has deep roots, shaped by generations of winemakers: knowledge and gestures passed down from his grandfather and father. After earning his degree in oenology and gaining international experience, Simone founded his own winery in 2015. This is how VikeVike was born — a name that in the local dialect means “Look Look”, an invitation to discover, be surprised, and be moved.
Vineyard Philosophy
“Wine is made in the vineyard.” This is the principle behind every vintage at VikeVike. Simone manages 4.5 hectares of vineyards, all rented, producing about 25,000 bottles each year. This flexible approach allows him to explore different expressions of “Ghiradas”, the vineyard parcels of Mamoiada, capturing new nuances of the territory every year.
Farming is strictly organic and sustainable, respecting the environment and local biodiversity. Harvesting is done by hand, ensuring only perfectly ripe and healthy grapes reach the cellar. Indigenous varieties, such as Cannonau and the rare Granatza, tell the authentic story of Mamoiada.
Winemaking Approach
Each plot is vinified separately to preserve its unique character. In the cellar, intervention is kept to a minimum: spontaneous fermentations, native yeasts, and no forced manipulation. Here, wine is guided, not altered.
Even for special cuvées, like the pure Granatza or blends with carefully selected purchased grapes, the goal remains the same: to craft genuine wines, capable of surprising and narrating an extraordinary land.
VikeVike is an invitation to discover: to pause, look, and taste. A sincere tribute to the identity of Mamoiada and to the passion of those who work the vineyards and cellar every day to make this unique corner of Sardinia shine.
