Felsen I 2023 – A Single-Vineyard Blaufränkisch of Striking Precision by Christian Tschida
Vineyard origin and unique terroir
Felsen I 2023 comes from a single 65-year-old vineyard, vinified in a single barrel. The shimmering schist with iron oxidation gives the site its distinctive sparkle, while hints of chalk deep in the soil add extra grip and texture. Its perfect southeast exposure facing Lake Neusiedl and a 10% slope ensure optimal sunlight absorption, resulting in greater flavor intensity and aromatic maturity. At night, cool air flows down from the forest behind the vines, naturally regulating temperature and maintaining a perfectly balanced microclimate.
Winemaking approach
Hand-harvested 100% Blaufränkisch, fermented and aged in one single large wooden barrel. Minimal intervention preserves the purest expression of the vineyard. The unique site’s minerality and freshness shine through in every sip.
Aromatic profile and tasting notes
Intense nose of wild berries, black cherry, fine spices, and subtle mineral undertones. On the palate, it’s vertical and elegant, with precise acidity and a long, enveloping finish. A wine of energy, depth, and remarkable finesse.
Food pairings
Ideal with grilled red meat, smoked beetroot, game dishes, or aged cheeses. Serve slightly below room temperature to enhance freshness.
