Dolcetto d’Alba 2023 – Gian Luca Colombo
Overview
The Dolcetto d’Alba 2023 by Gian Luca Colombo celebrates authenticity and elegance through a pure, terroir-driven expression of this traditional Langhe grape. Sourced from an old vineyard in Roddi, it combines aromatic brightness with supple texture and lively freshness. A minimalist approach and aging in terracotta amphorae enhance its natural character and purity. The result is a wine that speaks directly of place — vibrant, graceful, and full of personality.
History of the wine
This Dolcetto comes from 0.55 hectares of fifty-year-old vines located in Elia, Roddi, facing South-East. Since 2020, Colombo has farmed this historic plot independently, after its grapes previously went into the “Nu” blend. The decision to vinify it separately came from a desire to honor the identity of an old parcel and reveal its unique voice. Each bottle captures the story of the vineyard’s past and Colombo’s ability to merge research, intuition, and tradition into a modern expression.
Vineyard philosophy and cellar approach
Viticulture follows sustainable and biodiversity-friendly principles. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo spontaneous fermentation with 13 days of maceration, aimed at achieving delicate tannin extraction and aromatic clarity. After racking, the wine matures in 750-liter Tava terracotta amphorae until the end of April following the harvest. This vessel choice, free from wood influence, allows gentle oxygen exchange and preserves varietal precision and texture.
