Overview
The Dalsheim Oberer Hubacker Monopol Riesling Trocken GG 2023 stands as one of the pinnacles of Keller’s production, distinguished by intensity, depth, and remarkable structure. The 2023 vintage produced a wine of extraordinary balance, where the richness of ripe fruit is seamlessly intertwined with vibrant acidity and precise limestone minerality. It is a white wine that unites aristocratic elegance with vertical tension, fully showcasing the potential of this prestigious Monopol vineyard in Rheinhessen.
History
The Oberer Hubacker vineyard has been revered for centuries as one of the finest sites in Rheinhessen, thanks to its pure limestone soils and ideal exposure. The Monopol status signifies Keller’s exclusive ownership, ensuring complete dedication to vineyard management and terroir expression. Since 1789, the Keller family has safeguarded this unique site with passion and precision. In 2023, after a warm summer balanced by cool nights, the grapes reached exceptional ripeness, yielding a Riesling of substance, strength, and extraordinary aging potential, capable of competing with the world’s greatest white wines.
Vineyard philosophy
The vineyard is farmed with artisanal and sustainable practices, ensuring minimal intervention and maximum respect for the ecosystem. Harvesting is carried out manually in multiple passes, selecting only perfectly ripe clusters. The limestone soils are central to the wine’s character, imparting salinity, freshness, and verticality. In 2023, the pronounced day–night temperature shifts helped preserve acidity while enhancing aromatic complexity, balancing the vintage’s richness with energy and tension.
Winemaking approach
In the cellar, Keller applies methods of precision and respect for terroir. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, primarily in stainless steel and large neutral oak casks. Aging for several months allows the wine to develop structure and depth, while sulfite use is kept to a minimum to safeguard the authenticity of the site. The result is a Riesling of remarkable purity, power, and precision, with the ability to evolve beautifully over decades.
Tasting notes
Color: bright straw yellow with golden highlights.
