Dalsheim Oberer Hubacker Monopol Riesling Trocken GG 2022 Keller
Overview
The Dalsheim Oberer Hubacker Monopol Riesling Trocken GG 2022 is a prestigious dry Riesling, one of the highlights of Keller’s production. The 2022 vintage was marked by a warm yet balanced climate, yielding grapes of excellent ripeness and remarkable aromatic intensity. This wine combines power and finesse, with a rich fruit profile and a pronounced limestone-driven minerality. It stands as one of Rheinhessen’s most iconic labels and a true benchmark among German Grosses Gewächs, with the potential to age and evolve for decades.
History
The Oberer Hubacker vineyard has long been recognized as one of Rheinhessen’s most outstanding parcels, thanks to its limestone soils and ideal exposure, which provide perfect ripening and consistent quality. The Monopol designation highlights Keller’s exclusive ownership, allowing total dedication and precision in vineyard management. Since 1789, the Keller family has preserved this treasure, passing down a philosophy based on excellence. Despite the challenges of the 2022 season, the harvest produced a Riesling of great richness and harmony, with the structure to rival the world’s greatest white wines.
Vineyard philosophy
Vineyard work is carried out with artisanal and sustainable practices, ensuring minimal intervention and maximum respect for the ecosystem. Grapes destined for GG are hand-harvested in multiple passes, ensuring perfect ripeness for each cluster. The limestone soils are key to the character of the wine, delivering freshness, verticality, and a distinct mineral edge. In 2022, the alternation between warm days and cool nights helped preserve natural acidity and tension, balancing the richness of the vintage.
Winemaking approach
The cellar work reflects Keller’s commitment to purity and precision. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, mainly in stainless steel and partially in large neutral oak casks. This method preserves the Riesling’s varietal clarity while adding depth and structure. The wine is aged for several months, developing a defined, long, and persistent profile. Sulfite use is kept to a strict minimum to ensure the wine’s integrity and authentic terroir expression.
Tasting notes
Color: bright straw yellow with golden reflections.
Nose: layered and expressive, with aromas of ripe citrus, peach, apricot, white flowers, Mediterranean herbs, and mineral notes of flint and chalk.
Palate: dry, bold, and enveloping, with lively acidity, firm structure, and pronounced limestone minerality. The finish is long, elegant, and saline, leaving a persistent mineral trace.
Pairings
Perfect with seafood, oysters, shellfish, baked or grilled fish, delicate white meats, and refined Asian cuisine. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and gourmet preparations that highlight its richness and complexity.
