Dalsheim Oberer Hubacker Monopol Riesling Trocken GG 2021 Keller
Overview
The Dalsheim Oberer Hubacker Monopol Riesling Trocken GG 2021 is one of Keller’s highest expressions of dry Riesling, combining elegance, structure, and intense minerality. This vintage demonstrates the estate’s ability to capture the terroir’s personality in every bottle: the Monopol Oberer Hubacker vineyard, with its limestone-rich soils and optimal exposure, produces a powerful yet refined Riesling capable of evolving gracefully over time. The 2021 vintage stands out for slow, perfectly balanced ripening, delivering intense aromas and a vibrant acidity that ensures long-lasting freshness.
History
The Oberer Hubacker vineyard is one of Rheinhessen’s most prestigious sites, renowned for its unique minerality and the high quality of Rieslings it produces. The term Monopol indicates exclusive Keller management, allowing full control over every stage of production. The Keller family has cared for these vines for generations, selecting only the finest clusters to produce their GG, a benchmark dry Riesling. The 2021 vintage, with low yields and favorable climate, has resulted in a complex, layered wine capable of standing alongside the world’s finest whites.
Vineyard philosophy
Viticulture is carried out with artisanal and sustainable practices, using targeted interventions and low environmental impact. Harvesting is strictly manual, and each cluster is meticulously selected to ensure only healthy, fully ripe grapes reach the cellar. The limestone soils impart mineral tension, verticality, and length. The 2021 season, with mild temperatures and an ideal balance of sun and rain, allowed the grapes to develop intense aromas and natural freshness, creating a complex and harmonious aromatic profile. Biodiversity is preserved in the vineyard to maintain a balanced ecosystem, essential for fruit quality.
Winemaking approach
The cellar follows Keller’s philosophy of purity and essentialism. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, primarily in stainless steel and partly in large neutral oak casks, allowing the wine to develop structure without losing freshness. Aging lasts several months, during which the Riesling acquires depth, balance, and precision. The wine maintains intense minerality and extraordinary persistence, typical of this cru. Sulfites are used minimally to preserve integrity and longevity.
Tasting notes
Color: intense, luminous straw yellow with light golden highlights.
Nose: complex bouquet of ripe citrus, lime, white peach, yellow flowers, herbs, and flint. Mineral undertones and delicate spice nuances provide depth and harmony.
Palate: dry, structured, and vibrant, with razor-sharp acidity, saline minerality, and juicy fruitiness. Long, persistent finish with elegant balance between power and finesse, leaving a mineral aftertaste.
Pairings
Ideal with shellfish, baked fish, fine fish carpaccio, refined poultry, aged cheeses, and high-end international cuisine. Its minerality and tension also make it excellent as a meditation wine, enjoyed on its own to appreciate all nuances.
