Dalsheim “Bürgel” Spätburgunder Trocken 2022 Keller
Overview
The Dalsheim “Bürgel” Spätburgunder Trocken 2022 Keller is one of the most elegant expressions of German Pinot Noir. Grown on calcareous-clay soils in the prestigious Bürgel cru, it displays aromatic finesse, balance, and vibrant character, combining intensity with refinement. The 2022 vintage, warm yet balanced, produced grapes of excellent ripeness, resulting in a structured, complex, and age-worthy wine.
History
The Bürgel vineyard in Dalsheim has been cultivated for centuries and is now carefully managed by the Keller family, winemakers since 1789. The 2022 harvest provided ideal conditions for Pinot Noir, with sunny days and cool nights preserving acidity and aromatic freshness. The result is a wine that highlights both power and delicacy, hallmarks of this grape variety.
Vineyard Philosophy
Viticulture is conducted with an artisanal and sustainable approach, emphasizing manual labor and biodiversity. Calcareous-clay soils add minerality and depth, while strict grape selection ensures that only top-quality fruit is used. This results in a Pinot Noir of remarkable purity, true to its terroir.
Winemaking Approach
The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, followed by controlled skin maceration to extract aromas and fine tannins. Aging takes place in oak barrels, partly new and partly used, which contribute subtle spice and elegant structure without overwhelming the fruit. Minimal sulphur is used to maintain freshness and authenticity.
Tasting Notes
Color: intense ruby red with bright reflections.
Nose: aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, redcurrant, and floral notes, with hints of fine spices and noble oak.
Palate: dry, generous, and balanced, with velvety tannins, lively acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish.
Pairings
Excellent with roast white meats, light game, mushroom risottos, and aged cheeses. A versatile red, perfect for refined French and Mediterranean cuisine.
