Cococciola 2022
Overview
The Cococciola 2022 from Podere della Torre is a certified organic white wine, a true expression of the Abruzzo region. This native variety is enhanced through sustainable practices and hand-harvesting, resulting in a wine that is fresh, sapid, and aromatically complex. The 2022 vintage reflects the winery’s careful approach, prioritizing fruit purity and natural freshness, producing an elegant, balanced, and versatile white wine, ideal as an aperitif or paired with fish and Mediterranean cuisine.
Wine History
Cococciola is an ancient white grape variety from Abruzzo, historically used for quality white wines. In recent years, the promotion of autochthonous varieties and organic practices has brought recognition for freshness, minerality, and harmony. Podere della Torre continues this tradition, crafting Cococciola with care and precision, preserving its original characteristics and the typicity of Spoltore’s terroir.
Vineyard Philosophy
The vineyards for Cococciola 2022 are trained with the tendone system, with an average vine age of 30 years. Organic management ensures healthy vines and balanced grapes with optimal ripeness and natural acidity. The hillside microclimate and careful manual vineyard work produce aromatic, concentrated fruit, essential for a high-quality white wine that is fresh and immediately enjoyable.
Winemaking Approach
After hand-harvesting, grapes are pressed within one hour and fully destemmed. A short cold pre-fermentation maceration is followed by static decanting. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts at controlled temperature. Aging on fine lees adds structure, sapidity, and aromatic complexity without compromising freshness and varietal purity. The result is a wine that is coherent between nose and palate, elegant and immediately pleasing.
Tasting Notes
Color: bright straw yellow with green highlights.
Nose: floral and fruity bouquet, with white flowers, green apple, citrus, and delicate mineral notes.
Palate: dry, fresh, and sapid, with good structure and persistence. Balanced and harmonious, with a clean, long finish expressing minerality and fruit in perfect alignment with the aroma.
Food Pairings
Cococciola 2022 pairs perfectly with seafood appetizers, raw fish, seasonal salads, light pasta dishes, and Mediterranean cuisine. Its freshness and sapidity also make it ideal as an aperitif or alongside vegetable dishes and delicate white meats.
