Black Rebel 2019 – Granja Farm
Overview
Black Rebel 2019 embodies the wild and untamed soul of Granja Farm, born among the stone terraces of Val di Susa, where viticulture is an act of resistance. A blend of ancient native varieties — Avanà, Bequet, Barbaroux, Bonarda, Chateaux, Neretta, Barbera, Dolcetto, Amarengo, and Pelaverga — cultivated organically and vinified without compromise. This red wine speaks of freedom, mountains, and people who protect the land, turning every bottle into a declaration of agricultural independence.
Wine history
This wine was born from a spirit of recovery and community. The vineyards of Granja Farm, nestled among the rocks and forests of Chiomonte, were rescued from abandonment and restored through passion and resilience. Black Rebel symbolizes that revival — a wine that doesn’t follow market rules but the rhythm of nature. Each harvest is both a political and poetic act, proving that biodiversity and sustainability can be instruments of cultural resistance.
Philosophy in the vineyard
In the vineyard, all work is done by hand, without pesticides or herbicides, respecting the natural cycles of the vine. The mountain environment, harsh and demanding, yields small and concentrated grapes full of character. Altitude and mineral-rich soils bring freshness, tension, and a distinctive alpine salinity. Each vine is treated as an individual, expressing the pure essence of the Val di Susa terroir.
Winemaking approach
In the cellar, minimal intervention is the rule. After manual harvest, grapes are destemmed and undergo a short maceration in stainless steel, followed by spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine then ages in neutral oak barrels, where it matures slowly and naturally. No filtration, no clarification, and no added sulfites — only time and nature shape its personality. The result is a living, vibrant, and expressive red wine.
Tasting notes and pairings
The color is deep ruby red with bright reflections. On the nose, aromas of wild red fruits, mountain herbs, black pepper, and earthy nuances emerge. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet lively, with fine tannins and a savory freshness that recalls the mountain landscape. The finish is long and mineral, with notes of spice and forest floor. Perfect with aged cheeses, grilled meats, cured meats, and rustic mountain dishes. A free-spirited wine that tells the truth of its land.

Granja Farm: A Mountain Organic Farm in the Upper Susa Valley
History and Geographical Context
Granja Farm was founded in 2015 in Chiomonte (Turin), in the heart of the Alta Val di Susa, by a group of people determined to care for a rugged territory at risk of destruction in the name of progress. The project began by reclaiming abandoned lands, vineyards, meadows, and gardens to produce healthy and genuine food responsibly. The Susa Valley, located west of Turin, has always been a natural route to France — from Roman times to Hannibal — and today it has tragically become a dangerous passage for migrants crossing the mountains.
Philosophy and Production Principles
The philosophy of Granja Farm is rooted in sustainability and the preservation of rural memory. The farm cultivates ancient native grape varieties on centuries-old stone terraces nestled into the mountainside, practicing agriculture without pesticides or herbicides. Every task respects the natural cycles of the land, guided by the wisdom of local elders — the last keepers of an immense agricultural heritage. For Granja Farm, farming is a political act of resistance, opposing a system that exploits both people and nature for profit.
Production and Farm Management
Beyond viticulture, Granja Farm embraces a holistic approach that includes beekeeping, goat herding, horses, and poultry, all managed through sustainable and self-sufficient practices. The main vineyards and cellar lie within the red zone of the TAV (Turin–Lyon) construction site, yet determination and perseverance have allowed them to continue producing uncontaminated fruit. The farm stands as a symbol of environmental and cultural resilience, protecting seeds, stories, and agricultural traditions handed down through generations.
Vision and Future
Granja Farm strongly rejects GMOs, TEA, and NBT/NGT technologies, defending the biodiversity and genetic heritage of its land. Its goal is to safeguard natural food production and autonomy, cultivating the earth with respect, awareness, and responsibility. Every bottle, every jar, and every product tells the story of a living resistance — a commitment to a more sustainable and conscious future.
