Birdscape Pink 2024 – A Rosé with the Soul of a Red by Christian Tschida
Origins and unique Burgenland terroir
Birdscape Pink 2024 comes from the Leithagebirge hills, facing Lake Neusiedl to the southeast. The combination of limestone, which cools the warmer slopes near the lake, and crumbly schist, which retains heat in the cooler areas towards the forest, creates a perfect microclimate. This geological diversity gives the wine its unmistakable personality.
Winemaking and production philosophy
Christian Tschida hand-harvests the grapes — 50% Blaufränkisch and over 20 mostly red varieties — in a single harvest and co-ferments them. The wine undergoes 5–6 weeks of skin maceration, followed by gentle pressing and aging in large wooden barrels. No fining, no filtration, and minimal intervention: a pure expression of the terroir.
Aromatic profile and tasting notes
On the nose, Birdscape Pink 2024 offers aromas of fresh red berries, crunchy cherry, redcurrant, floral undertones, and a subtle mineral and spicy touch. On the palate, it surprises with its dual nature: the freshness and agility of a rosé combined with the depth and complexity of a light red. Long, saline, and refreshing finish.
Food pairings
Ideal with charcuterie, structured fish dishes, fusion cuisine, and soft cheeses. Also perfect served slightly chilled for summer meals or light barbecues.
