Wine History
The 12 Volts line represents one of 4Kilos Vinícola’s most iconic projects, focused on experimenting with indigenous blends and innovative winemaking techniques. The 2023 vintage continues this legacy, reinterpreting Mallorca’s historic grape varieties through natural, artisanal methods. 12 Volts tells the story of local viticulture, emphasizing the intimate connection between winemaker and terroir. Contains sulfites.
Vineyard Philosophy
The vineyards for 12 Volts 2023 grow on iron-rich, reddish Call Vermell soils, managed according to natural viticulture principles. Manual harvesting and low yields ensure optimal grape quality and aromatic complexity. The philosophy is to allow the grapes to fully express their character, showcasing the mineral profile of the land and the Mediterranean climate unique to Mallorca. All bottles contain sulfites.
Winemaking Approach
The vinification of 12 Volts 2023 blends traditional and innovative techniques. After controlled maceration, fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts in both stainless steel and selected oak. Aging is carried out in barriques and foudres, with duration varying according to vintage, ensuring the grapes’ expressiveness and the blend’s balance. Minimal sulfur dioxide is added to guarantee stability without affecting natural expression. Contains sulfites.

4Kilos Vinícola
History
In August 2006, two childhood friends, Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero, launched the ambitious project “4Kilos Vinícola” in Mallorca. With an initial investment of around 6,000 euros, they demonstrated that passion and a clear quality vision can outweigh economic limitations. The first harvest was vinified in a colleague’s garage, producing “4Kilos 2006,” a wine made with unconventional methods. Half of the must fermented in milk cooling tanks, providing extensive skin contact, while the other half rested in French barriques. After 14 months of maturation and final blending, 3,000 bottles were released in May 2008, achieving notable success. In 2007, production moved to the outskirts of Felanitx, transforming a former sheep shelter into a small winery. Here, subsequent vintages were crafted, characterized by constant experimentation with barrel types, aging duration, and techniques. The history of 4Kilos represents a journey of passion, innovation, and strong territorial connection. All wines produced by 4Kilos contain sulfites.
Vineyard Philosophy
4Kilos’ philosophy is based on a symbiosis between producer and terroir, where every agronomic choice respects the natural vineyard balance. Vineyards, both owned and leased, are located in various areas of southern and northern Mallorca on soils called “Call Vermell,” rich in iron oxide that gives unique wine characteristics. Varieties include Callet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Fogoneu, Merlot, Manto Negro, Mourvèdre, and Syrah. Canopy management, manual pruning, and reduced chemical treatments maintain biodiversity and plant health. Each vintage is closely monitored for ripeness, microclimate, and soil conditions to determine the optimal harvest moment. Interventions are minimal, promoting sustainable, environmentally friendly agriculture. Only the best grapes are selected for vinification. This approach highlights each vineyard’s character and the natural expressiveness of the varieties. All 4Kilos wines contain sulfites.
Winery Approach
At the winery, Francesc and Sergio blend tradition and innovation, giving full scope to experimentation. Fermentations take place in various containers depending on the vintage and desired results: French barriques, unusual tanks, and small vats allow modulation of skin contact, structure, and aromatic complexity. Aging varies yearly, including choices in wood type, barrel size, and time in the cellar. Every step, from fermentation to microbiological stabilization, is carefully monitored to enhance each wine’s personality. The approach seeks to convey a strong sense of place while avoiding invasive techniques. Continuous analysis and micro-vinifications allow experimentation without compromising quality. The philosophy is clear: the winery is a creative laboratory, always respectful of the raw material. All wines produced by 4Kilos contain sulfites.
Vision and Innovation
4Kilos’ vision is to create natural wines that tell the story of Mallorca’s hills while respecting the environment and people involved. Collaboration with local growers fosters a supportive ecosystem and sustainable practices. Each vintage offers opportunities to experiment with aging and varietal blends. Environmental awareness combines with a contemporary, refined taste aimed at informed consumers. 4Kilos promotes constant dialogue between tradition and innovation, refining wine identity through controlled experiments and emphasizing each vineyard’s uniqueness. The winery always states that all its wines contain sulfites, ensuring transparency and trust.
