Sister’s Wines Kisi White 2021
An outstanding qvevri wine from Kakheti
The Sister’s Wines Kisi White 2021 is an excellent example of low-intervention qvevri wine made by Jane Okruashvili, sister of John Okruashvili from Okro’s Wines, near the picturesque town of Sighnaghi in the Kakheti region of Georgia. The vineyards are organically farmed, without pesticides, herbicides, or chemical treatments. The wines are produced without added sulfites or any other additives, preserving the purity of the fruit and terroir.
Vineyard philosophy
The grapes come from vineyards cared for using natural and sustainable methods. Fermentation happens spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, maintaining the authenticity and biodiversity of the vineyard. This approach allows the complex terroir to be expressed with elegance and freshness.
Winemaking approach
The winemaking is traditional with minimal intervention. Grapes ferment in qvevri, the typical Georgian buried clay amphorae, without added sulfites or filtration. The wine initially shows “funky” notes typical of natural wines, then develops into a rich explosion of ripe fruit.

Okro’s Wines
The Story and Soul of Okro
Okro’s Wines is a landmark Georgian winery for those seeking truly authentic natural wines, produced with traditional methods but a contemporary vision. Founded by John Wurdeman and Gela Patalishvili, it is located in Sighnaghi, in the heart of Kakheti, Georgia’s historical wine region.
Okro’s was born with the mission to revive ancient qvevri winemaking (terracotta amphorae buried underground) and to protect native grape varieties and a unique, uncontaminated terroir.
🌿 Vineyard Philosophy
In the vineyards, Okro’s practices certified organic farming, rejecting synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides. The vines grow on hillsides about 700 meters above sea level, in clay and limestone soils that give the wines structure and minerality.
Everything is done by hand — pruning, tending, and harvesting — always respecting the natural balance of the vines. Harvesting is timed with the seasons and never forced.
🍷 Winemaking Approach
The cellar is the beating heart of Okro’s Wines: fermentation happens with native yeasts, without filtration or fining, and with minimal or no added sulfur. Grapes are vinified in traditional qvevri, with long skin contact and natural aging before bottling.
This approach creates authentic, complex wines that can be rustic but are always alive, with deep aromas and remarkable aging potential.
