Marco is a man of many facets, truly surprising. Originally from Calabria but a Roman by adoption, he is a winemaker you wouldn’t expect. For many reasons.
We met him in the center of Rome, and while tasting his incredible Cesanesi wines, a member of the Italian Senate recognized him and started a conversation with him. With endless modesty, Marco hadn’t mentioned that he was an important researcher at the University of Pisa, specializing in infectious diseases.
His life unfolds between the university laboratories and his beloved vineyards, which are cultivated strictly in an organic regime. His vineyards cover just under 3 hectares, with slightly above-average planting density, by company philosophy. Once again, it creates a sense of disproving common stereotypes. He uses Spanish and Tuscan amphorae.
The Cesanesi del Piglio wines are not opulent, ultra-drinkable, and delightful. Natural.
The Falcone Winery does not use any chemical agents in the vineyard, even where not using them could pose serious production risks. It does not take shortcuts in the cellar. The wines of the estate are characterized by a total sulfur content of about 10 mg/liter.
