ZigoZago 2022: natural and elegant Umbrian Syrah
Wine Overview
ZigoZago 2022 is a Syrah Umbria IGT that expresses the power and elegance of the Umbrian terroir. With a limited production of 4,000 bottles, this wine comes from 20-year-old vineyards cultivated naturally on galestro-rich soils, offering an intense and refined aromatic profile, perfect for those seeking an authentic, structured yet harmonious Syrah.
Wine History
ZigoZago 2022 originates from Lumiluna’s vineyard experience, aiming to showcase the Syrah variety in Umbria. Manual harvesting and artisanal production allow each cluster to be transformed into a wine that highlights the mineral character and depth of the local soils, while maintaining the freshness and varietal personality typical of Syrah.
Vineyard Philosophy
Viticulture is natural: no chemical interventions, strict respect for biodiversity, and attentive soil care to produce healthy and ripe grapes. The 20-year-old vines express the richness of galestro and the aromatic complexity of Syrah, enhancing fruit concentration and the finesse of tannins.
Cellar Approach
After manual harvesting, fermentation occurs in vitrified cement for about 20 days, followed by racking. Aging continues in steel for approximately 8 months, preserving the purity of the fruit and terroir character. ZigoZago 2022 is neither filtered nor clarified, with minimal SO₂, ensuring aromatic expressiveness and authenticity.
Tasting Notes
Color: intense red with violet highlights, bright and deep.
Aroma: aromas of ripe black fruits, plum and blackberry, with subtle spicy and mineral notes conveying elegance and structure.
Palate: soft and enveloping, velvety tannins and good acidity, with a persistent finish recalling dark fruit and galestro.
Pairings
ZigoZago 2022 pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, roasted beef, and aged cheeses, enhancing the depth and complexity of Umbrian Syrah.

Lumiluna: the winery between tradition and innovation
The history of Lumiluna
Lumiluna was born in Mercatello from the deep friendship between Luca Bigicchia and Giulio Rinaldi, two young entrepreneurs who chose to continue their family agricultural tradition. Their passion led them to restore old vineyards through manual pruning and careful soil care. In 2015, they began their adventure in their free time, working “by moonlight,” which inspired the winery’s name. 2017 marked a turning point: from a few hundred bottles, they expanded production thanks to acquiring additional vineyard hectares, and in 2018 their own winery was completed, strengthening their presence in the region.
The vineyard philosophy
Lumiluna’s vineyards, trained in guyot, double inverted, and cordon speronato, spread over a 20 km radius south of Perugia, across the hills surrounding Mercatello. They currently manage 15 diverse plots, with soils ranging from clay to limestone, from galestro to clay-skeleton mixtures, offering extraordinary mineral complexity. Vines aged 20 to 65 years allow cultivation of grapes such as Trebbiano, Grechetto, Malvasia di Candia, Syrah, Sangiovese, and Ciliegiolo, aiming to produce elegant and refined wines without synthetic substances.
The cellar approach
In the cellar, Luca and Giulio follow an artisanal approach, with controlled fermentations and minimal interventions that respect the natural expression of the grapes. Every step is personally supervised, from cluster selection to aging in barrels and tanks of various materials. This method highlights vineyard biodiversity and wine aromatic complexity, ensuring authentic products true to the territory.
Lumiluna’s identity and creativity
Lumiluna is more than wine; it is a cultural project combining tradition, sustainability, and creativity. Every year, two or three new labels are added to the base range, inspired by songs listened to during the harvest, a crucial moment for defining the wines. This philosophy gives the labels unique personality, making Lumiluna a young winery capable of telling deep stories through its work. Respect for the land, combined with the founders’ passion, makes every bottle an experience of taste and culture.
