History
The Kirchspiel vineyard has a long tradition, carefully maintained by the Keller family since 1789. Known for its southeast exposure and constant ventilation, it allows grapes to ripen evenly and develop exceptional aromatic concentration. Classified as Grosses Gewächs (GG), it belongs to Germany’s elite vineyard sites. The 2021 vintage produced healthy grapes with balanced sugars and perfect acidity, allowing the creation of a pure, intense, and harmonious Riesling.
Vineyard Philosophy
Vineyard management follows handcrafted and sustainable principles, with minimal mechanical intervention and selective manual harvesting. Calcareous and clay soils provide the wine with structure, salinity, and vertical tension. The 2021 vintage showcased a perfect balance between phenolic ripeness and natural acidity, producing a Riesling that is energetic, aromatic, and long-lived.
Winemaking Approach
In the cellar, Keller employs natural, fruit-driven winemaking techniques. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts occurs in stainless steel and large neutral oak casks, preserving the purity of the variety and terroir. Several months of aging allow the wine to develop complexity, structure, and finesse. Sulphur is used minimally, ensuring authenticity and aromatic precision.
