Corvagialla Rosso 2018: the sharp elegance of volcanic Sangiovese
Corvagialla Rosso 2018 is a bold, deep red wine made from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown naturally in the volcanic soils of northern Lazio. This is the most traditional yet radical expression of Tommaso Gallinari’s philosophy: a wine that doesn’t aim for textbook balance but instead captures attention with its mineral, cutting-edge personality. Fermented and aged in large chestnut barrels, this Sangiovese recalls the rustic heritage of Lazio while showing surprising refinement.
Vineyard philosophy and winemaking approach
The grapes come from vineyards farmed without chemical treatments, with a focus on biodiversity and natural rhythms. Harvest is done by hand, followed by spontaneous fermentation in 10-hl chestnut barrels—a traditional vessel that allows slow, delicate oxygen exchange. The wine then matures for six months in the same barrels and another six months in bottle, with no filtration, clarification or additives. It’s a slow, honest process rooted in terroir.
Tasting notes
Colour: intense ruby red with garnet hints that signal development.
Nose: dark cherry, damp earth, underbrush and a ferrous edge dominate the bouquet, with delicate notes of raw spice and wild herbs.
Palate: full and vibrant, with a solid backbone of acidity and saltiness from the volcanic soil. Tannins are firm yet fine, and the finish is long, mineral and savoury, with earthy and balsamic echoes.
Food pairings
Corvagialla Rosso 2018 pairs beautifully with rich dishes: meat-based pastas, wild boar ragù, cured meats and aged cheeses. It also shines with grilled or braised red meats thanks to its body and persistence.

Corvagialla: agricultural freedom and living wines from Alta Tuscia
Corvagialla is a small agricultural and wine estate located in Castiglione in Teverina, in the heart of northern Lazio’s Alta Tuscia. Here, not far from the Umbrian border, Tommaso Gallinari has created a rural project that is first and foremost a way of life. Corvagialla is a place to live and farm naturally, without forcing rhythms, in deep connection with landscape and time. Wine here is not a product, but an agricultural act—free, spontaneous, and tied to its soil.
Vineyard philosophy and winemaking approach
The vineyards grow on volcanic, tufaceous soils at around 450 meters above sea level. Farming is manual, with no chemical treatments, herbicides, or irrigation. Local varieties like Procanico, Malvasia, Verdello, and Ciliegiolo are grown alongside vegetables, fruit trees, olive groves, bees, and forest. Biodiversity is part of the project’s core, as is a vision of low-impact, respectful agriculture.
In the cellar, the process remains artisanal: spontaneous fermentation, no clarification or filtration, and zero additives. Wine matures in neutral materials such as concrete or fiberglass, preserving the grape’s integrity. Each wine is unique, shaped by the vintage, the parcel, and the hands behind it.
Style and identity
Corvagialla’s wines are vibrant, pure, and unconstrained. The whites—often with light maceration—are floral, saline, and vertical. The reds are lean, juicy, and bright. Their beauty lies in their sincerity and coherence with place. Corvagialla does not follow external trends, but builds itself slowly and thoughtfully, in rhythm with nature.
