Piquette Orange 2022: spontaneous fermentation and fresh unfiltered delight
The revival of an ancient tradition with high-altitude grapes
Piquette Orange 2022 aims to rediscover and enhance the historic piquette tradition, reinterpreted naturally and modernly. The grapes come from vineyards over 1,300 meters above sea level, dry-farmed with no chemical treatments, in a wild, pristine environment. Organic farming and respectful soil management produce healthy, fresh, and vibrant fruit, perfect for a light, refreshing wine expressing pure terroir character.
Natural winemaking and spontaneous fermentation
In the cellar, piquette is produced through spontaneous fermentation of diluted must, without added selected yeasts or additives. No fining or filtration is done. The wine appears slightly hazy with delicate bubbles and a notable tension. Natural fermentation delivers a fresh character, with aromas of citrus and herbs, and a balanced, lively structure. Light orange in color, with aromas of white peach, chamomile, and lemon peel. On the palate, slightly sparkling, pleasantly savory, with a fresh, harmonious finish.

Mersel Winery: natural wine artisans on the Lebanese high plateau
A new face of Lebanese wine, shaped by altitude and expressive freedom
Mersel Winery was born in northern Lebanon, on the Mersel plateau, over 1,200 meters above sea level. In this cool and breezy region, where vines grow among barley fields and pine forests, an independent and radical winemaking project took shape. The winery was founded on the idea of crafting natural wines that truly reflect the terroir and local grape varieties, while also embracing experimentation and creative freedom. Farming is non-interventionist, with no pesticides or irrigation, focused on reviving ancient vines of Merwah and Obeideh, alongside free-form interpretations of international grapes, beyond appellation rules.
A cellar without rules, where wine is guided by instinct and spontaneity
In the winery, Mersel follows a strict low-intervention philosophy: spontaneous fermentation, no fining, no filtration, and minimal or zero added sulfur. Wines are produced in small batches and often aged in unconventional vessels like amphorae or raw concrete tanks. The goal is to let the wine make itself, without manipulation or cosmetic adjustments. Styles are deliberately unpolished, fresh and vibrant, with strong sensory identity that changes from vintage to vintage. Mersel is one of Lebanon’s true pioneers of natural wine and a benchmark for authentic, expressive and unconventional bottles.
