Mtsvane – Gvymarani
Origins and History
The Mtsvane from Gvymarani originates in the heart of Kakheti, Georgia, from a native grape variety that perfectly captures the purity and freshness of the land. This label continues a millennia-old tradition based on the use of Qvevri, underground terracotta amphorae that allow natural winemaking. The grapes are harvested in the village of Manavi, renowned for its exceptional Mtsvane, and are handled with meticulous care to ensure excellence at every stage.
Philosophy in the Vineyard
Mtsvane vines are cultivated with full respect for natural cycles, avoiding invasive interventions and preserving vineyard biodiversity. Harvest takes place in September, a collective moment where the local community plays a central role. The women of Tsichevdavi manually select each cluster, discarding any imperfect ones. This artisanal approach ensures healthy, concentrated grapes, ready to produce a wine with a unique territorial identity.
Vinification and Variety
Mtsvane is vinified as a single variety and fermented in traditional underground Qvevri. The whole grapes, with stems and skins, are left to macerate for weeks, extracting complex aromas, structure, and a distinctive color. The Qvevri allows for natural micro-oxygenation, giving the wine depth and aging potential. The result is a white wine of surprising structure, balancing freshness and complexity.
Tasting Notes

Nose: Complex aromas of ripe yellow fruit, mineral hints, and herbal notes.

Gvymarani Winery – Tradition and Innovation in the Heart of Kakheti
History of Gvymarani
Founded in 2013, Gvymarani was born in the heart of Kakheti, Georgia’s most celebrated wine region, with the precise aim of preserving and passing on ancient local winemaking traditions. From the very beginning, the winery has established itself as a benchmark for producing wines that convey the true soul of the territory. Gvymarani’s history is deeply tied to the use of Qvevri, the underground terracotta amphorae typical of Georgian winemaking, recognized as UNESCO heritage. This choice stems not only from the desire to safeguard an ancient method but also from the awareness that amphora fermentation gives wines a unique personality, with remarkable structure, complexity, and longevity.
Philosophy in the Vineyard
Gvymarani passionately cultivates Georgia’s three most representative native grape varieties: Rkatsiteli, ideal for structured and tannic white wines; Mtsvane, known for its mineral and fruity character; and Saperavi, the king of deep and powerful reds. Vineyard work follows the rhythm of nature, without forcing, and with a respectful approach to the ecosystem. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, a ritual that unites the local community and ensures only the best clusters are selected. The vineyards, bathed in Kakheti’s generous sunlight and refreshed by gentle breezes, produce healthy grapes rich in aromas, ready to fully express Georgian identity.
Winery Approach
In the cellar, the approach is a balance between faithfulness to tradition and meticulous attention to quality. Grapes are vinified in underground Qvevri, allowing natural, slow fermentation in contact with the skins, resulting in wines with a defined tannic structure and intense aromatic profile. For example, the Mtsvane grapes are hand-harvested in the village of Manavi and carefully selected by the women of Tsichevdavi, ensuring only the finest clusters are used. This attention to detail is reflected in every bottle, where the natural process is perfectly aligned with the wine’s elegance.
Identity and Territory
Gvymarani is more than a winery: it is a guardian of Georgia’s winemaking heritage. Each wine tells the story of Kakheti’s landscapes, between gentle hills and mineral-rich soils. The winery has earned admirers worldwide while maintaining a strong connection to its community and terroir. The decision to focus on native varieties and produce limited quantities guarantees authenticity and uniqueness. In a globalized market, Gvymarani stands as a beacon for those seeking wines that blend millennia-old history, artisanal technique, and unmistakable character.
