Majò 2022: Organic Catarratto from Partinico
Wine Overview
The Majò 2022 from Antonino Asta is a 100% Catarratto, a natural, fresh, and very drinkable white wine. Born in 2019 from Nino Asta’s initiative to bottle a small part of the estate’s Catarratto, it fully reflects the pedoclimatic characteristics of Bosco Falconeria. With delicate citrus notes and pleasant minerality, this wine contains sulfites and is perfect for those seeking freshness and authenticity in a Sicilian white.
Wine History
The Majò label was created in 2019 as an innovative expression within the estate’s Catarratto production. The wine represents a natural interpretation of a native Sicilian grape and in 2021 it received the Premio Mediterraneo Packaging, recognizing both design and product quality. Majò embodies Nino’s desire to bottle the authentic character of Partinico vineyards cultivated with organic methods.
Vineyard Philosophy
The Catarratto grapes come from biologically farmed vineyards planted in 2007, on north-east facing hills with medium-sandy soil. The vines are trained with Guyot pruning and espalier system, yielding 80 q/ha. Harvest occurs from September 1st to 10th, selecting the best clusters to produce a fresh, balanced, and mineral wine that truly expresses the Sicilian terroir.
Winemaking Approach
Vinification of Majò 2022 includes spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel at 20-22°C, followed by malolactic fermentation. Aging lasts 6 months in steel on the lees, without filtration and with minimal sulfites, preserving freshness, natural aromas, and a vibrant sapidity. Only 3000 bottles are produced, making this Catarratto a handcrafted and authentic wine, easy to enjoy young.

Antonino Asta Winery: Tradition and Innovation in the Heart of Partinico
History of the Winery
The Antonino Asta Winery is located in Partinico (PA), in the Bosco Falconeria area, covering 14 hectares, 11 of which are vineyards. Deeply rooted in the local territory, the winery was founded by Nino Asta’s grandparents and has been passed down through generations. In 2019, Nino, the great-grandson of the founders, began bottling the estate’s wines, aiming to restore value to these long-overlooked products, bringing attention back to authentic Sicilian wines.
Vineyard Philosophy
Antonino Asta’s philosophy is based on certified organic cultivation since 2015. The vineyards, carefully maintained, are located on a hill that offers optimal sun exposure and natural ventilation, essential for grape ripening. Organic management promotes soil health and biodiversity, ensuring healthy and expressive grapes. Respect for the natural cycle of the vines guides all agricultural decisions, producing authentic and sustainable wines.
Winemaking Approach
In the winery, production follows minimal intervention principles, favoring spontaneous fermentations and aging methods that highlight the natural character of the wines. The goal is to create products that reflect the terroir of Partinico, local tradition, and the organic philosophy of the estate. Every step of vinification is designed to preserve freshness, aromas, and complexity, avoiding filtration or fining and limiting sulfites to controlled levels.
The Territory and Experience
The estate sits on a panoramic hill overlooking the Castle of Calatubo and the splendid Gulf of Castellammare, with views stretching from San Vito Lo Capo to Punta Raisi. This unique setting not only defines the wines’ character but offers a complete sensory experience, blending breathtaking landscapes with wines that tell the story of the land. Antonino Asta Winery is thus a meeting point of passion, nature, and Sicilian tradition, producing wines that capture the essence of Partinico.
