Gre2 2024 – Pie de Tierra
Wine History
The Gre2 2024 originates from historic vineyards mostly planted between the 1950s and 1960s, telling a story of authentic viticulture. These dry-farmed bush-trained vines sit at around 600 meters above sea level, in a unique microclimate. The Atlantic influence tempers the summer heat and the cool nights preserve the natural acidity of the grapes, resulting in a wine with great freshness and character.
Vineyard Philosophy
Yields are intentionally low at about 24 hectoliters per hectare to ensure maximum concentration and quality. The granite soils, enriched with decomposed sands and occasional schist outcrops, give the wine a distinctive mineral structure. Vineyard management is strictly natural and dry-farmed, respecting the rhythms of nature and promoting plant and soil health.
Winemaking Approach
In the winery, Gre2 is made through spontaneous fermentations in stainless steel, chestnut, and oak vats. Partial whole cluster use and extended macerations allow for complexity and depth extraction. Aging takes place in old barrels of varying sizes, with no fining or significant filtration. Sulfur addition is minimal and carefully calibrated to respect the wine’s integrity.

The nose reveals juicy red fruit aromas with subtle hints of aromatic herbs, while the palate offers a tense and lively minerality paired with a fresh mountain-like finish. Pie de Tierra – Garnacha from the Sierra de Gredos
Origins and Foundation
Pie de Tierra was born in 2015 from the meeting of David Villamiel and Aitor Paul during their studies at the Madrid School of Viticulture and Oenology. Their winemaking skills were honed through internships at two of Spain’s most renowned wineries: Valquejigoso and Comando G.
Winemaking Philosophy
From the outset, the project’s mission has been clear: to respect the environment and highlight the local terroir, crafting wines that faithfully reflect their origin. Pie de Tierra follows a sustainable viticulture approach, with minimal intervention both in the vineyard and the cellar, preserving varietal purity and the authentic expression of the land.
Vineyards and Terroir
The heart of the production is Garnacha, grown on the granite slopes of the Sierra de Gredos, an area famous for producing fresh, elegant and mineral-driven wines. The vineyards are located in two main areas:
Méntrida (Valley of the Alberche River) – Around 20 hectares owned by David’s family, planted in the mid-20th century.
Aldea del Fresno (Madrid Region) – 4-5 hectares along a riverbed, benefiting from sandy, granite-rich soils and a distinctive microclimate.
