Couvent Rouge 2018: a genuine expression of Lebanese red wine
A wine born from high-altitude vineyards and a community rooted in respect
Couvent Rouge 2018 is crafted in the heart of the Bekaa Valley, where dry climates, sharp diurnal shifts and clay-limestone soils create the perfect setting for high-quality viticulture. The grapes are grown under certified organic farming, by smallholder farmers who share the winery’s cooperative vision. Vineyard work is done manually, with no artificial irrigation or chemicals, following natural rhythms and respecting local agricultural traditions.
Clean and precise winemaking for a refined and sincere red
In the cellar, the philosophy mirrors that of the vineyard: precision, patience and minimal intervention. Couvent Rouge 2018 is a blend of international varieties – mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Tempranillo – vinified separately through spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel. After blending, the wine ages in concrete vats and partially in used oak barrels to soften the tannins while preserving the fruit’s identity. The result is a balanced red that speaks of its origin with elegance.
The color is a bright, deep ruby red. On the nose, it offers ripe red berries, sweet spices and a hint of wild herbs. On the palate, it is smooth, rounded and well-structured, with fine tannins and vibrant freshness.

Couvent Rouge Winery: the heart of organic wine in the Bekaa
A resilient and sustainable viticulture in the mountains of Lebanon
Couvent Rouge was founded in the village of Deir El Ahmar, at the heart of the Bekaa Valley, one of Lebanon’s most fertile winegrowing areas. Created to revitalize the region’s agricultural economy after conflict, the winery is a symbol of renewal: here, the vine represents not just a crop, but an act of resistance and rebirth.
The vineyard philosophy is rooted in organic and cooperative farming, working with over two hundred local families. Vineyard management is entirely manual, respecting natural cycles and biodiversity. The wide temperature range between day and night, combined with an altitude of nearly 1100 meters, promotes optimal grape ripening without forcing. No chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used: the soil is cultivated using regenerative practices to preserve both the land and its history.
The winery as a lab of identity and modernity
Inside the winery, the work continues with coherence and precision. Couvent Rouge uses modern but low-impact techniques, favoring steel, concrete, and, for select cuvées, wood aging. The aim is clear: to guide the grapes through their natural transformation without altering their essence. Each wine is conceived as an extension of the landscape that gave it life, preserving aromatic purity and authentic structure.
Vinification focuses on enhancing native Lebanese grapes such as Merwah and Obeidy, alongside international varieties that have adapted well to the local climate. Spontaneous fermentation is frequently used, as is a minimal approach to sulfites. In the cellar, every step is crafted with artisanal care, reflecting a wine culture that looks ahead while remaining deeply rooted.
A project that connects wine, community, and territory
Couvent Rouge Winery is more than a winery: it is a social, cultural, and environmental initiative. Each bottle tells a story of rebirth and belonging, born among rugged mountains and hardworking hands. Wine here is not just an agricultural product, but a messenger of an identity that resists, evolves, and opens up to the world.
