Mesdì Rosso – Casina Bric
A Piedmontese red wine made from native grape varieties that interprets everyday conviviality through balance, freshness and drinkability, combining Langhe tradition with an authentic and versatile style.
Overview
Mesdì Rosso by Casina Bric is born in the hills of Piedmont as the expression of a wine designed to accompany everyday meals. The name “Mesdì,” which in the local dialect refers to midday and the daily mealtime, perfectly reflects the philosophy behind this wine: to be approachable, authentic and capable of enhancing convivial moments without sacrificing quality. Produced from native grape varieties grown between Guarene and Barolo, Mesdì Rosso combines moderate structure, gentle tannins and an aromatic profile rich in fresh fruit and spice. The result is a balanced and versatile red wine that represents the most approachable and food-friendly side of Piedmont’s winemaking tradition. Contains sulfites.
History of the Wine
Mesdì Rosso was created with the intention of interpreting the winemaking traditions of the Langhe and Roero through a wine intended for everyday enjoyment. Casina Bric developed this project to offer a red wine capable of expressing the territory in a more accessible form than the region’s great long-ageing wines. The concept behind the wine is to enhance fruit sourced from different vineyards and create a harmonious blend that maintains territorial identity, balance and pleasure. The result is a wine that preserves the character of Piedmont while emphasizing immediacy and gastronomic versatility.
Vineyard Philosophy
The grapes used for Mesdì Rosso come from vineyards located between Guarene and Barolo, in areas characterized by clay and limestone soils and predominantly south-east and south-west exposures. These conditions promote complete and even ripening, allowing the grapes to develop a natural balance between aromatic expression, structure and freshness. Harvesting takes place at full ripeness, generally at the beginning of October, when the grapes reach optimal phenolic maturity. The objective is to preserve the quality of the fruit and provide the ideal foundation for traditional vinification and differentiated ageing processes.
Winemaking Approach
Mesdì Rosso is produced through a winemaking process focused on enhancing fruit character and overall balance. Following harvest at full ripeness, the grapes undergo an extended maceration period ranging from 20 to 40 days, allowing gradual extraction of color, aromas and tannic structure. The different lots are then aged separately in a combination of oak, concrete and stainless steel vessels. Each material contributes specific characteristics: oak provides complexity and depth, concrete promotes balance and natural micro-oxygenation, while stainless steel preserves freshness and aromatic precision. At the end of the ageing process, a final blend is created from the wines matured in the different vessels, resulting in a medium-bodied wine characterized by soft tannins, excellent drinkability and an appealing combination of fresh fruit and spice.
Tasting Notes
Color: bright ruby red with lively reflections that emphasize freshness and youthfulness.
Nose: expressive and inviting, featuring aromas of ripe red fruits, cherry, wild berries and delicate spicy nuances.
Palate: balanced and harmonious, medium-bodied, with gentle tannins, refreshing acidity and a pleasant finish marked by fruit-driven and spicy notes.
Food Pairings
Mesdì Rosso is an exceptionally versatile wine with a natural affinity for the dining table. It pairs beautifully with pasta served with meat sauces, ragù, lasagna and traditional Piedmontese dishes. It also finds excellent balance alongside cured meats, cheese boards and grilled meats. Thanks to its moderate structure and refreshing character, it complements a wide range of everyday meals and is equally suitable for informal dining occasions and more convivial gatherings.
