Overview
Barolo Bricco delle Viole 2020 by Casina Bric is produced from one of the estate’s most prestigious and representative vineyards, located in the heart of the highest areas of the Barolo denomination. This wine embodies the perfect balance between unique terroir conditions, a rigorous selection of the finest vineyard parcels and a winemaking philosophy focused on expressing the identity of the land. Altitude, diverse exposures and constant ventilation contribute to the creation of a Nebbiolo with remarkable aromatic finesse and vibrant structure. Vintage after vintage, Bricco delle Viole continues to strengthen its reputation among the most highly regarded geographical indications of Barolo. The result is a wine of great personality, capable of delivering complexity, balance and outstanding ageing potential. Contains sulfites.
History of the Wine
Barolo Bricco delle Viole was created with the aim of showcasing one of the most renowned geographical indications within the Barolo production area. The 3.5 hectares that make up this vineyard represent Casina Bric’s largest and most significant collection of parcels, a viticultural heritage that has consistently demonstrated exceptional quality over time. Only grapes harvested from the best-performing parcels of each vintage are selected for this label. This careful selection preserves the unique identity of the cru while highlighting its most distinctive characteristics. As a result, the wine becomes a faithful expression of a territory capable of producing Nebbiolo wines defined by elegance, structure and remarkable depth.
Vineyard Philosophy
The vineyards of Bricco delle Viole occupy a privileged position, with exposures ranging from east and southeast to south and west. This unique setting allows the vines to benefit from sunlight from sunrise to sunset, ensuring complete and balanced ripening of the grapes. Winds descending from the Alps help maintain cooler summer temperatures while reducing the risk of late spring frosts. The soils display remarkable diversity: eastern-facing parcels are rich in clay and iron, while southern and western slopes are characterized by the famous Sant’Agata marls and lighter soils. This combination of geological features contributes to the complexity and distinctive personality that define the wine.
Winemaking Approach
Barolo Bricco delle Viole 2020 is produced from 100% Nebbiolo, following a winemaking approach designed to preserve the identity of the cru and its exceptional ageing potential. Long macerations with cap management techniques allow for gradual extraction of aromas, color and tannic structure, building a wine of considerable depth and longevity. Thanks to the characteristics of these high-altitude vineyards, the wine develops higher natural acidity and generally lower pH levels than many other areas of the denomination, resulting in greater freshness and brighter color. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes an extended ageing process, followed by additional bottle maturation, allowing the tannins to integrate fully and achieve greater harmony and elegance.
Tasting Notes
Color: bright and luminous garnet red, displaying vivid reflections that highlight both freshness and ageing potential.
Nose: deep and refined, revealing aromas of ripe red berries, dried rose petals, delicate spices, aromatic herbs and subtle mineral nuances.
Palate: full-bodied, structured and persistent, supported by powerful yet elegant tannins, leading to a long, balanced and remarkably expressive finish.
Food Pairings
Barolo Bricco delle Viole 2020 is an ideal companion for the finest dishes of Piedmontese cuisine and other richly structured recipes. It pairs beautifully with Barolo-braised meats, game dishes, roasted red meats and slow-cooked preparations. Its complexity also makes it an excellent match for aged and mature cheeses, where its elegance and depth can be fully appreciated. This is a wine that rewards patience and contemplative tasting, making it particularly suitable for special occasions and refined dining experiences. Its vibrant acidity and well-defined tannic structure ensure balance and persistence throughout the meal.
