Andrea Pilar Vigne Altre 2022
An exceptionally distinctive Trebbiano born from a vineyard more than seventy years old and from a project dedicated to territorial research, highlighting places, people, and vineyards capable of expressing the most authentic face of Umbria through profound, characterful, and highly expressive wines.
Overview
Andrea Pilar Vigne Altre 2022 is much more than a wine: it is the opening chapter of a project devoted to the discovery and enhancement of historic vineyards scattered throughout the Umbrian landscape. It originates from the meeting of extraordinary raw material and a production philosophy centered on respect for both the vineyard and territorial identity. This Trebbiano stands out for its depth, energy, and ability to convey its place of origin with remarkable precision. The combination of old vines, sustainable farming practices, and an essential approach to winemaking results in a white wine of great character. Vigne Altre 2022 represents an authentic expression of rural and viticultural Umbria, bringing together heritage, research, and contemporary vision in a single bottle.
History of the Wine
Vigne Altre was conceived as a project of study, exploration, and discovery, with the goal of identifying and enhancing particularly interesting vineyards cultivated according to sustainable practices and free from invasive chemical interventions. Andrea Pilar personally follows these vineyard sites, overseeing their agricultural development and interpreting their fruit through a cellar philosophy founded on respect for the raw material. The first wine of the project comes from a historic Trebbiano vineyard more than seventy years old, located in Sant’Enea, along the ridge that connects Perugia to Marsciano. This area has long been recognized for its suitability for the production of high-quality white wines. The result is a wine that tells not only the story of a grape variety but also one of territory, tradition, and the preservation of local agricultural heritage.
Vineyard Philosophy
The grapes come from a Trebbiano vineyard that is more than seventy years old, a viticultural heritage of extraordinary historical and agricultural value. The vineyard is farmed according to sustainable practices that prioritize the natural balance of the ecosystem while minimizing external interventions. The advanced age of the vines naturally results in low yields and significant aromatic concentration, two essential elements in building the wine’s complexity. The hillside location of Sant’Enea, historically renowned for white wine production, also contributes to preserving freshness, tension, and aromatic precision. This approach allows the identity of Trebbiano and the distinctive character of the territory to be fully expressed.
Winemaking Approach
Andrea Pilar Vigne Altre 2022 is produced exclusively from Trebbiano grapes. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks over a period of 15 to 20 days, allowing careful management of the wine’s aromatic development and structure. Following fermentation, frequent stirring of the fine lees is carried out, a practice that contributes additional complexity and texture to the wine. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, promoting greater harmony and integration among the wine’s aromatic and structural components. Subsequent maturation in concrete tanks supports the wine’s evolution without altering its varietal profile, preserving authenticity, tension, and purity of expression.
Tasting Notes
Color: Intense and luminous yellow, bright and deep, anticipating the wine’s concentration and complexity.
Nose: Layered aromas recalling wet stone and mineral notes are accompanied by hints of grape skin, wildflowers, and delicate woodland nuances that provide depth and character.
Palate: Firm, finely chiseled, and profoundly savory, with a precise and dynamic structure that unfolds toward a long, mineral-driven finish of remarkable persistence.
Food Pairings
The structure and depth of Andrea Pilar Vigne Altre 2022 make it particularly well suited to cuisine rich in nuance and flavor. It pairs beautifully with structured fish dishes, shellfish, white meats, and sophisticated vegetable-based preparations. Its saline and mineral character enhances recipes that place exceptional ingredients at the center of the experience, complementing both traditional cuisine and more contemporary interpretations with elegance. It is especially compelling alongside semi-hard cheeses, mushroom-based dishes, and preparations featuring aromatic herbs and complex textures. Its depth and persistence also allow it to excel in pairings often reserved for great age-worthy white wines.
