Overview
Andrea Pilar Syrah 2023 is a red wine that showcases the most fascinating and multifaceted side of Syrah grown in Umbria. It stands out for its ability to balance power and finesse, offering a contemporary interpretation of one of the world’s most celebrated grape varieties. Its layered aromas, balanced structure, and remarkable complexity make it a wine of great personality and character. Careful winemaking and well-measured aging preserve both the varietal identity and the unique expression of the territory. Andrea Pilar Syrah 2023 is a wine that captivates from the very first encounter, thanks to a palate that is intense yet harmonious, designed to evolve beautifully in the glass and accompany memorable moments at the table.
History of the Wine
Andrea Pilar’s Syrah was created with the ambition of interpreting this international grape variety through a sensibility deeply rooted in the Umbrian landscape. The project revolves around producing a wine that goes beyond concentration and richness, emphasizing elegance, dynamism, and aromatic complexity. The 2023 vintage delivered grapes of exceptional quality, capable of achieving balanced ripeness while preserving a rich aromatic profile. The result is a wine that evokes intense and evocative sensations, where dark fruit, spice, and balsamic notes coexist in perfect harmony. It is a Syrah that faithfully reflects its territory while expressing a distinctive and recognizable style.
Vineyard Philosophy
The grapes come from two separate vineyard parcels planted with mature vines at very high density. This planting strategy encourages natural competition among the vines, contributing to lower yields and greater fruit quality. Vineyard management focuses on achieving a natural balance between production and aromatic concentration while enhancing the distinctive characteristics of both the grape variety and the local environment. Harvest takes place at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness, fruit integrity, and aromatic complexity. This approach allows the grapes to fully express the true character of Syrah while maintaining elegance, precision, and balance throughout the wine.
Winemaking Approach
Andrea Pilar Syrah 2023 is produced exclusively from Syrah grapes. Part of the fruit is destemmed, while a significant portion is fermented as whole clusters, a choice that contributes additional complexity and aromatic depth. After destemming and a gentle partial crushing of the grapes, spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Maceration is intentionally limited and does not exceed ten days, preserving freshness and balance. Malolactic fermentation occurs in large French oak tronconic vats that have been used for multiple vintages, accompanied by periodic stirring of the fine lees. The wine then matures in large oak casks for at least eight to ten months, gaining complexity while maintaining varietal definition and clarity.
Tasting Notes
Color: Deep ruby red with elegant violet reflections that highlight its youthfulness and vitality.
Nose: Broad and expressive, featuring aromas of ripe dark fruit intertwined with balsamic nuances, spice, and captivating notes of black pepper.
Palate: Structured and compact yet simultaneously energetic and refined, revealing a complex texture supported by vibrant freshness and long-lasting spicy undertones.
Food Pairings
Andrea Pilar Syrah 2023 reaches its full potential alongside flavorful dishes and well-structured cuisine. It pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, roasted dishes, and game birds, enhancing their aromatic depth and richness. Its spicy and balsamic character complements recipes featuring aromatic herbs, black pepper, and slow-cooking techniques. It is also an excellent companion for aged cheeses and high-quality artisanal cured meats. Thanks to its balance between intensity and freshness, it can accompany an entire meal while maintaining elegance, precision, and harmony.
